Heir claim documents

Small estate option

Heirs whose total estate is personal property valued at $15,000 or less may appoint a voluntary administrator under R.I. Gen. Laws 33-24-1 without opening full probate. The voluntary administrator presents the appointment certification to collect debts owed to the decedent, including unclaimed-property claims, in lieu of Letters Testamentary.

Claim processing time

Under R.I. Gen. Laws 33-21.1-24, the General Treasurer must consider each claim within 90 days of filing and send written notice of any denial; approved claims are paid with any applicable interest.
