Heir or estate claim
An heir or estate representative files a claim with proof of death and proof of authority to act for the estate, then uploads the requested documentation through the portal.
Small estate option
Heirs may use the small estate affidavit procedure under MCL 700.3983 (SCAO form PC 598) when the gross estate does not exceed $50,000 and includes no real property, at least 28 days after death, with no probate pending. This affidavit can be presented to the Treasury in lieu of Letters of Authority for qualifying estates.
Claim processing time
The administrator must consider each claim within 90 days of filing and provide written notice of any denial (MCL 567.245).
