State Unclaimed Property in Washington

The Washington Department of Revenue is the custodian for unclaimed property — dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, insurance proceeds, stocks, safe deposit box contents, and similar assets. Property is generally considered unclaimed after three years of no owner contact, after which the holder reports and remits it to the state. Heirs of a deceased owner file a claim through the UCP portal with proof of death and authority over the estate.
