State Unclaimed Property in Wyoming: key facts

Administering office
Wyoming State Treasurer (the statutory "administrator" under Wyo. Stat. 34-24-102(a)(i)).
Right to reclaim
Perpetual — Wyoming holds unclaimed property subject to the right of the party originally owning or entitled to the property to reclaim it upon proper proof of ownership and identity (Wyo. Stat. 34-24-101(d)).
General dormancy period
Five (5) years after the property became payable or distributable, except as otherwise provided in the Act (Wyo. Stat. 34-24-103(a)).
Decision window
The administrator considers each filed claim within 90 days and gives written notice if the claim is denied in whole or in part (Wyo. Stat. 34-24-125).
Small estate option
Estates valued at $200,000 or less (net of liens and encumbrances) may use the summary distribution procedure under Wyo. Stat. 2-1-205 rather than full probate. A sworn application may be filed with the county clerk no earlier than 30 days after death; a court decree obtained under this procedure may substitute for Letters Testamentary when claiming unclaimed property held by the State Treasurer.
