Who may claim / documents
Only the owner, an heir, or a court-appointed representative may file a claim. Most claims require the signed claim form plus a copy of photo identification and a document showing the Social Security number; the documents required for a specific claim are listed on the claim-form attachment emailed after the claim is submitted.
Time limit to claim
None published. AS 34.45.380 sets no deadline for filing a claim, and the Treasury Division states that where abandoned property has been sold under AS 34.45.360, the net proceeds remain claimable by owners and heirs.
Documentation response window
If the Unclaimed Property Program requests additional documentation, the claimant has 90 days to respond; claims with no response in that window are dropped from the claim-tracking system.
Small estate option
If the entire estate, less liens and encumbrances, consists only of Alaska-registered vehicles worth no more than $100,000 plus other personal property worth no more than $50,000, 30 days have passed since the death, and no personal representative has been appointed or applied for, a successor may collect the property on an affidavit (Form P-110) instead of probate Letters. Confirm with the Treasury Division whether it accepts P-110 for an unclaimed property claim. (Alaska Stat. 13.16.680.)
