Non-attorney, non-certified-guardian applicants must also complete the online guardianship training module (certificate filed with the court at least 10 days before the hearing) and pass a criminal background check delivered to the court at least 10 days before the hearing; a digital fingerprint background check is required when the liquid estate value is $50,000 or more. Effective 9/1/2025, all persons presenting a document for filing in person into the real property records must provide a photo ID to the clerk (Tex. Loc. Gov't Code Sec. 191.010).
