Visit the agency website →Search wvunclaimedproperty.gov, then file a claim with the State Treasurer's Unclaimed Property Division with a certified death certificate, proof of authority (Letters Testamentary, Letters of Administration, or an Affidavit of Heirship), and proof of identification.
Under W. Va. Code 36-8-15, the administrator must allow or deny a filed claim within 90 days and give the claimant written notice of the decision.
West Virginia holds unclaimed property until it is claimed, so there is generally no deadline for owners or heirs to file a claim.
