Visit the agency website →The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD), Unemployment Insurance Division, administers unemployment compensation through the claimant portal at my.unemployment.wisconsin.gov.
The death should be reported to DWD by phone so payments stop. Any payment issued for weeks after the date of death must be returned, and DWD determines whether a final payment is owed for eligible weeks before death.
Under Wis. Stat. 108.13(3), DWD has discretion to designate "any person who in its judgment should properly receive the benefits in lieu of the claimant." The statute sets no priority order between executor, surviving spouse, or other heirs — DWD decides case by case. Contact DWD directly to initiate the designation process.
