Steps to take

  1. Search southcarolina.findyourunclaimedproperty.com for the deceased's name and prior addresses, and run a multi-state search at missingmoney.com.
  2. File a claim as the personal representative or heir of the estate:
    • A copy of the death certificate
    • A currently dated Certificate of Appointment from the Probate Court, or other court order authorizing the claimant to act for the estate
    • Proof of ownership of the property
  3. The State Treasurer reviews the claim and issues a decision; a filed claim is considered within 90 days.
