Frequently asked questions

The death should be reported to the Oregon Employment Department by calling 1-877-345-3484 so payments stop. The Department determines whether a final payment is owed for eligible weeks before the date of death and how it is paid, and may ask for any payment issued for weeks after death to be returned.

Under ORS 293.490 and ORS 293.495, the surviving spouse has first priority, followed by the trustee of any revocable trust, then children and descendants, then parents, then siblings, then nieces and nephews. An executor or personal representative may also act on behalf of the estate. The claimant submits an affidavit confirming the death, that the estate will not be probated, that total state money owed does not exceed $10,000, and the claimant's relationship to the deceased. Call the UI Contact Center at 1-877-345-3484 for the current form.
