  1. Search unclaimedproperty.michigan.gov for the deceased's name, maiden name, and prior addresses, and run a multi-state search at missingmoney.com.
  2. Start a claim through the portal as the heir or estate representative.
  3. Provide proof of death and proof of authority to act for the estate, and upload the documentation the portal requests. For qualifying small estates (≤ $50,000, no real property, 28+ days after death), SCAO form PC 598 may serve as proof of authority in lieu of Letters of Authority.
  4. The Department of Treasury reviews the claim and pays the property to the verified claimant within 90 days of the claim filing date (MCL 567.245).
