What happens to Bungie game content when someone dies

“The Program is licensed, not sold, for your use. Your license confers no title or ownership in this Program or any digital content therein and should not be construed as a sale of any rights in this Program. Bungie grants you the non-exclusive, personal, non-transferable, limited right and license to install and use one copy of this Program solely for your non-commercial use.”¹

Live Content, a defined term that includes accounts, stats, virtual assets and virtual currencies, is not owned by the player: the agreement states "you do not in fact own or have any property interest in the Live Content."¹

Live Content has no monetary value, does not constitute property of any type, and may be altered, removed, deleted or discontinued by Bungie at any time.¹

Unless Bungie specifically permits it, a player may not sell, lend, rent, trade or otherwise transfer any Live Content.¹

Bungie may terminate the agreement at any time for any reason or no reason, and any use of the program in violation of the license limitations ends the license immediately.¹

Expansion and DLC licenses are tied to the platform they were bought on, do not transfer between platform accounts with Cross Save, and are bought separately on each platform.^{2, 3}

The online service is sublicensed to US users by Sony Interactive Entertainment America, purchases made on a PlayStation product are subject to Sony's Network Terms of Service and User Agreement, and linking a PlayStation Account brings in the PlayStation Network terms.^{1, 4}

Virtual currency cannot be sold, transferred or exchanged for cash, is non-refundable subject to applicable local law, and a player is "not entitled to a refund or any other compensation" for unused virtual currency.¹

Bungie does not provide Silver refunds or transfers for any Destiny release, and Silver balances are not shared across Destiny releases.⁵

Refunds and chargebacks are issued by the platform marketplace and Bungie adjusts the Silver balance to match, so a platform refund of unspent Silver removes that Silver from the account.⁵

Bungie's data privacy channel takes requests for a copy of the information Bungie maintains, for correction and for deletion. Some categories, such as information on game restrictions or detected Terms of Use violations, are excluded from account exports.⁶

Bungie's right of deletion covers a request that it delete the personal information it has collected or retained, and after a deletion request some information may still be retained for legal, accounting, business continuity, anti-fraud and community reasons.⁶

Requests to access, correct or delete personal information require validation that the requester is the account owner, and a request that cannot be validated is cancelled and closed out.⁶

Bungie states that data erasure and data access requests require players to sign into their Bungie.net profiles for security purposes, so a request started by email may still go uncompleted.^{6, 7}

The Data Privacy Requests web form requires signing in to the Bungie.net profile; people who cannot sign in, or who have no profile, can start a privacy request by email instead.^{6, 7}

The general Bungie Help submit-a-request route redirects to a Bungie.net sign-in before the ticket form loads, so it is not reachable by an estate representative.⁶

Bungie may decline any of these requests; nothing in its terms obliges it to grant them.¹
