Frequently asked questions

Yes. For estate tax planning, an Irrevocable Life Insurance Trust (ILIT) can own a Genworth life insurance policy. The trustee of the ILIT becomes both the policy owner and beneficiary, removing the death benefit from the grantor taxable estate. Contact Genworth at 888-325-5433 to request the Change of Ownership form. Policies transferred to an existing ILIT are subject to a three-year lookback rule under IRC Section 2035. Genworth does not establish ILITs; work with an estate attorney to create one.

Call Genworth Life & Annuity Claims at 888-325-5433 (Monday-Thursday 8:30am-6pm ET, Friday 9am-6pm ET). Complete the form and return it with an original certified death certificate to: Genworth Life and Annuity Claims Department, P.O. Box 10719, Lynchburg, VA 24506. Overnight shipping: 3100 Albert Lankford Drive, Lynchburg, VA 24501. Forms can also be faxed to 888-325-3299, but original certified death certificates may be required by mail.

Call Genworth Life & Annuity Claims at 888-325-5433 to report the death and request an Annuity Claim Form. Each beneficiary must complete a separate annuity claim form. You may also fax the completed form to 888-325-3299, but original death certificates may not be accepted by fax. If a beneficiary name has changed, include a copy of the marriage certificate, divorce decree, or court document.

Genworth has suspended new sales of life insurance and long-term care insurance through its legacy companies. Existing policyholders continue to be fully serviced, including claims processing, beneficiary changes, and policy administration. CareScout Insurance Company, a wholly-owned Genworth subsidiary, launched Care Assurance -- its inaugural standalone LTC insurance product -- in October 2025 and is available in 40 states as of February 2026, with additional states pending approval. Existing legacy life insurance and LTC policies remain in force and continue to pay claims; only new business has been suspended. Contact Genworth at 888-GENWORTH (888-436-9678) for questions about existing policies.
