When an insured person dies, the beneficiary or executor should contact Genworth's Life & Annuity Claims at 1-888-325-5433 to start the claims process. Insurance proceeds are paid directly to the named beneficiary and do not go through probate. How quickly the claim is processed depends on the policy type, documentation, and cause of death.

Follow these steps to file a death claim with Genworth:
Overnight shipping address: 3100 Albert Lankford Drive, Lynchburg, VA 24501. For long-term care claims at time of death, mail or fax a copy of the death certificate to: Genworth Long Term Care Claims, P.O. Box 40007, Lynchburg, VA 24506, Fax: 888-557-5526. LTC claims phone: 800-876-4582. LTC documents can also be emailed to ltcdocuments@ltc-claims.com. An original certified death certificate with a final cause of death is required; a certified death certificate with a pending death cause is not accepted. Faxed copies of the death certificate may not be accepted for all claim types.

Yes. For estate tax planning, an Irrevocable Life Insurance Trust (ILIT) can own a Genworth life insurance policy. The trustee of the ILIT becomes both the policy owner and beneficiary, removing the death benefit from the grantor taxable estate. Contact Genworth at 888-325-5433 to request the Change of Ownership form. Policies transferred to an existing ILIT are subject to a three-year lookback rule under IRC Section 2035. Genworth does not establish ILITs; work with an estate attorney to create one.
