What happens to a Figma account when someone dies

“Upon any termination, to the extent permitted by applicable law, Figma will make all Customer Content then held by Figma available to you for electronic retrieval for a period of 30 days, but thereafter Figma may delete any stored Customer Content.”¹

The Terms of Service grant a "limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable right" to access the Services.¹

Under section 9.7, the Terms and access to any of the Services are not assignable or transferable by the customer without Figma's prior written consent.¹

Owned folders of a deleted account become ownerless, and a team owner or admin can claim them.³

When an account is deleted without ownership transferred first, a Starter or Professional team with other members has ownership reassigned automatically, to an admin, then a can-edit member, then a can-view member. A team with no other members is deleted.²

On Organization and Enterprise plans the team becomes ownerless and an organization or workspace admin can claim it. Owned files inside teams or folders become ownerless and cannot be claimed, though anyone with access keeps it.²

Deleting an account deletes the files in that account's drafts regardless of who owns them.²

Files in drafts become inaccessible on Starter; on Professional, Organization and Enterprise they are collected into a folder only admins can reach.²

Admins can reach a removed user's drafts in an admin-only folder on Professional as well as Organization and Enterprise, though moving that folder into a team is not supported on Professional.⁴

An organization or workspace admin can recover a member's drafts and claim ownerless teams and folders on their own timeline, with no Figma review.^{4, 3}

The Data portability and deletion page directs data access requests for data that cannot be downloaded from within the account to support@figma.com.⁵

Subscriptions are not canceled automatically when an account is deleted, and a paid Professional subscription must be canceled before the account can be deleted.²

Invoices are not accessible after an account is deleted, and Figma recommends downloading them first.²

Where no admins remain, Figma support can remove the card on file to prevent renewals, given the last four digits and expiration date of the card and the date and amount of the most recent payment.⁶

The Renewal and Cancellation Terms apply to Organization plan subscriptions purchased online, supplement the Software Services Agreement, and name support@figma.com for cancellation.⁷

If the person belonged to an organization, an organization admin has to remove them from the organization before the account is closed.^{2, 8}

Community files published from a deleted account stay publicly accessible, and anyone who already duplicated a file keeps their copy. Figma Support can be asked to remove Community files associated with a deleted account.⁹

Paid Community resources cannot be unpublished, only delisted, and remain accessible to people who bought them.⁹

Creator payouts for paid Community resources are made through the creator's own Stripe account rather than through Figma, and a disabled Stripe account automatically delists the resource.¹⁰
