What happens to Figma accounts when the owner dies
Contact Figma, Inc. to request a transfer of accounts after an account holder dies
Figma Support
No published timeline. Figma Support responds via email only; there is no phone or live chat and no dedicated bereavement queue. Organization admins can recover draft files from a deceased member's account independently, on their own timeline, without Figma review.
(General customer service)
Figma has no published estate, bereavement, or deceased-account process. The Terms of Service grant a "limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable right" to access the Services (Section 1.1), and state that "These Terms (and your access to any of the Services) are not assignable or transferable by Customer without Figma's prior written consent" (Section 9.7). Team ownership can only be transferred by the current Owner through team Settings, which makes it a critical single point of failure if the Owner's account becomes inaccessible. Organization admins can recover a departing member's draft files before the member is removed from the organization. On termination, ToS Section 8.2 states Figma will "make all Customer Content then held by Figma available to you for electronic retrieval for a period of 30 days, but thereafter Figma may delete any stored Customer Content." There is no documented path for family members or executors to gain access to a personal Figma account or its files; Figma support triage for a deceased-account situation is handled through the general contact form.

Frequently asked questions
Figma subscriptions do not auto-cancel. The subscription continues billing the payment method on file until it is manually canceled or the payment method fails. Only the team Owner or an Admin with billing access can cancel the subscription from team Settings, so the estate needs that access before the next billing cycle.
No. Figma does not publish a bereavement or estate claims process. There is no dedicated form, support category, or documentation for deceased users. Contact Figma Support via the general contact form at figma.com/contact/; expect to provide a death certificate, government-issued ID, proof of legal authority, and the account email or team URL.
Figma Support may use additional signals such as the last four digits of the credit card on file for billing accounts, but there is no guaranteed verification path without access to the original email address. For teams, the more reliable path is for an existing Organization admin to recover draft files, or for the Owner role to be transferred by the current Owner before the account becomes inaccessible.
Dev Mode access is tied to an individual's Full or Dev seat on a team. When a member is removed, all inherited permissions -- including Dev Mode access -- are revoked. The design files and dev resources the member had access to remain available to other team members with appropriate seats, but any personal comments, inspections, or saved code snippets specific to that user are not transferable.
Once transferred, accounts are subject to the program's standard terms. Having the deceased account holder's details documented in advance makes the transfer process significantly easier for the family.
