Redbubble — deceased-artist account closure ("When an Artist Passes"); no dedicated estates phone line or email published
Redbubble Inc, 170 Grant Avenue, Suite 600, San Francisco, CA 94108, USA (Redbubble also publishes Redbubble Europe GmbH, c/o Denizen Eiswerk, Koepenicker Strasse 40-41, 10179 Berlin, Germany; and Articore Group Limited, Level 12, 697 Collins St., Docklands, Victoria 3008, Australia)
Redbubble publishes no response time for a deceased-artist request. What it does publish is the payment cycle the final payment follows: a payment period covers all orders shipped within a calendar month, processing begins at the start of the following month, payments begin sending on the 15th, and the money should land by the 15th subject to the payment method — PayPal close to instant, US bank payments 1 to 3 business days, Australian 1 to 2, UK 2 to 4. The balance must reach $10 / GBP10 / EUR10 after any applicable account fees to be paid at all; below that it rolls over to the following month and continues to accumulate. A balance that cannot be paid because the payment details are invalid or incomplete is charged the $3 / GBP3 / EUR3 monthly Unpayable Artist Account Fee while it stands at $10 / GBP10 / EUR10 or more, and the fee pauses once the balance falls below that.
Redbubble publishes a dedicated deceased-artist path, and its outcome is closure rather than transfer or continuation. Under the heading "When an Artist Passes", the account-closure article states: "We're deeply saddened when we lose one of the independent Artists on the Redbubble marketplace. In situations like this, the account may need to be closed as required by law." To finalize closure Redbubble asks for the account username, the full name on the account, the email address on the account, the physical address on the account, and a scanned death certificate or death notice, submitted through the help-centre request form or posted to one of three published addresses. Redbubble states that "Once this is received, the account will be closed for you and any final payments will be processed." The separate User Agreement provision is broader and is the citable one: "In the unfortunate event that a User dies or becomes permanently incapacitated, we may request certain documents from such User's successors, assigns, or legal representatives including, but not limited to, a death certificate, proof of succession, or power of attorney." On closure the profile and all works are removed while existing comments remain, and there is no published route for an heir to take over the account — only a single natural person may be the owner of an account. Accrued earnings are not forfeited: the User Agreement provides that "Upon termination of this User Agreement by either party, you will be paid any accrued Margin proceeds from your account, less any applicable administration fees." Because the artist retains the copyright in the uploaded designs, the designs themselves pass to the estate independently of the account and can be used elsewhere.

Frequently asked questions
Redbubble closes it. Under the heading "When an Artist Passes", its account article states that in these situations the account may need to be closed as required by law, and that once the requested documents are received the account will be closed and any final payments processed. The profile and all uploaded works are removed from the marketplace, existing comments remain, and the username and shop name cannot be reused. There is no published way for an heir to take over the account — the User Agreement provides that only a single natural person may be the owner of an account.
Yes. The marketplace is operating normally. The entity you contract with is Redbubble Inc, 170 Grant Avenue, Suite 600, San Francisco, CA 94108, USA, named in the User Agreement, which was last updated on 15 May 2026. The listed parent is Articore Group Limited, an ASX-listed company that also operates TeePublic and that Redbubble names as its Australian postal contact. The group was formerly called Redbubble Limited; the Redbubble brand and the marketplace are unaffected.
Five things: the account username, the full name on the account, the email address on the account, the physical address on the account, and a scanned death certificate or death notice. Redbubble asks that the scanned document be attached through its help-centre request form, and publishes postal addresses in the United States, Germany and Australia for anyone who prefers to send a copy by post. Notably it does not ask for letters testamentary or proof of executor appointment at this stage, though the User Agreement allows Redbubble to request further documents from a successor, assign or legal representative, including proof of succession or a power of attorney.
The artist's estate. The User Agreement states that, unless a Partner Program licensor agreement says otherwise, "you retain any intellectual property rights you possess in your Content", and the licence Redbubble takes is non-exclusive and ends within a commercially reasonable time after the content is removed from the marketplace. The copyrights are therefore a separate asset from the Redbubble account and pass under the will or the state's intestacy rules. Designs submitted through the Partner Program can carry licensor terms that restrict use or require transfer of the artist's interest, so those need checking individually.
Sales can continue while the listings are up, and the earnings accrue to the account balance on the ordinary monthly cycle. They stop when Redbubble is notified and the account is closed, because closure removes every listing from the marketplace. There is no published mechanism for royalties to continue to an heir through the deceased artist's account. An heir who inherits the copyrights can open their own account and re-upload the work, which starts a new shop with no reviews, followers, ranking or sales history.
Nothing in the published terms forfeits them. The User Agreement provides that "Upon termination of this User Agreement by either party, you will be paid any accrued Margin proceeds from your account, less any applicable administration fees", and the closure article says final payments are processed once the deceased-artist documents are received. What does happen is erosion. A balance that Redbubble cannot pay because the payment details are invalid or incomplete is charged the Unpayable Artist Account Fee of $3 / GBP3 / EUR3 a month, but only while the balance is $10 / GBP10 / EUR10 or more — once the fee takes it below that, the fee pauses. Redbubble also states that a suspended account's balance is frozen in accordance with the User Agreement.
The artist payment threshold is the minimum balance needed before Redbubble sends a payment, and it is $10 / GBP10 / EUR10, lowered from $20 / GBP20 / EUR20 on 1 July 2026. It is measured after any applicable account fees are deducted, and a balance below it rolls over to the following month and keeps accumulating rather than being lost. The same threshold applies to a final estate payment. Payment periods cover orders shipped in a calendar month, processing starts at the beginning of the following month, and payments begin sending on the 15th.
Once transferred, accounts are subject to the program's standard terms. Having the deceased account holder's details documented in advance makes the transfer process significantly easier for the family.
