Transfer of accounts after death is not guaranteed under Pinterest, Inc.'s terms. Lifetime planning offers a more reliable way to manage and share accounts while the account is active.

How to protect your Pinterest Ads accounts

6 steps for managing your Pinterest Ads accounts during your lifetime:

1
Record the Pinterest account email that owns the ad account, the ad account name or ID, and whether billing runs on an automatic card with a billing threshold or on a prepaid balance. An executor needs these to find the account and the spend.
2
Add a trusted co-manager or successor in Business Manager during life, with Admin or Manager and Finance permissions, so campaigns can be paused and billing handled quickly. Account ownership is not transferred after death, so the only way someone can act fast is to already have access.
3
List every ad account managed through Business Manager so the executor can find and pause each one, rather than discovering hidden spend in a second ad account later.
4
Note that live campaigns keep showing ads and charging the payment method on file until they are paused. Leave clear instructions to pause all campaigns immediately so the estate is not billed for ads no one is managing.
5
Treat any promotional ad credits or coupons as non-recoverable. They are not transferable, they expire on their own schedule, and they have no cash value, so do not plan around them as an asset.
6
Plan the ad account alongside the rest of the Pinterest account. The same login covers the boards and saved pins, and the deceased-user path is account deletion — see the Pinterest estate guide.

Family sharing

A Pinterest ad account cannot be signed over to another person, and Pinterest does not document an ownership-transfer mechanism for personal or business accounts. The closest thing to a transfer is the access model in Business Manager: the account owner or a Manager can add employees and partners and assign ad-account permission levels (Admin, Analyst, Finance edit, Finance read, Audience, Campaigns, Catalogs). Granting another person Admin or Manager access during life is the practical way to let a co-manager or successor pause campaigns and handle billing if the owner becomes unavailable. There is no beneficiary designation on a Pinterest ad account, and promotional ad credits or coupons cannot be moved to another account. Planning is done by recording access details for an executor and by adding a trusted co-manager in Business Manager before the owner is gone.

Should you save your passwords for your family?

Some people store account passwords so a family member can sign in later. The practice has three practical limits:

  • Two-factor authentication often blocks it. Most accounts require a second factor — a code sent to a phone, an authenticator app, a passkey, or a physical key. A saved password alone frequently does not grant access, and the recovery codes that would are easy to lose or let go stale.
  • It usually conflicts with the platform's terms. Most operators prohibit account sharing and signing in as another person, including after a death. Stored credentials are not the operator's recognized access path, and using them can violate the terms of service.
  • Operators provide other paths. Where an operator offers a designation tool — Apple's Legacy Contact, Google's Inactive Account Manager, a beneficiary designation — that mechanism grants access the operator recognizes. A password manager's own emergency-access or legacy feature passes credentials through a controlled process. Digital assets named in a will or trust give a fiduciary authority under each state's Revised Uniform Fiduciary Access to Digital Assets Act (RUFADAA).

Frequently asked questions

Record the Pinterest account email that owns the ad account, the ad account name or ID, and whether billing runs on an automatic card with a billing threshold or on a prepaid balance. Add a trusted co-manager in Business Manager with Admin or Manager and Finance permissions so campaigns can be paused quickly, since account ownership is not transferred after death and live campaigns keep spending until paused. List every ad account so your executor can find each one, and treat any ad credits as non-recoverable because they are non-transferable, expiring, and have no cash value.

Listing the Pinterest Ads account in an estate inventory identifies it for a fiduciary, who works through the operator's official channels to manage or close it.

There is no beneficiary designation option for Pinterest Ads. This account type does not support naming a recipient the way bank or investment accounts do.
