What happens to a Peloton account when someone dies

“Activation Codes may not be assigned, transferred, traded, or pledged to any third party by the recipient except as may be expressly authorized by Peloton. Activation Codes cannot be transferred by operation of law, such as by inheritance, in bankruptcy, or in connection with a divorce.”¹

Household sharing happens within one account holder's membership; it is not a transfer of ownership and does not survive that account holder.¹

The 12-month Limited Warranty is not transferable to second-hand owners, but Peloton Protection Plans purchased on or after April 5, 2022 are transferable, provided the new owner obtains and keeps the original owner's plan order confirmation.^{2, 3}

Bikes from the Peloton Rental Program cannot be resold or transferred, and Peloton will not activate an All-Access Membership on a resold Rental Program Bike or Bike+.²

Protection plans sold after April 5, 2022 are transferable. Only the original owner is eligible to buy a Protection Plan, so a beneficiary cannot add one to inherited equipment.⁴

A family member who keeps the equipment cannot take over the deceased member's membership: the device is factory-reset, and the new owner signs in to or creates their own account and starts their own All-Access Membership.²

The deceased member's profile and workout history stay attached to the account, not to the equipment, and are lost once the account is deleted.⁵

New members activating used equipment from a private seller pay a one-time $95 used equipment activation fee, which includes a $25 spare parts credit, a 50% off coupon for up to three pairs of Peloton cycling shoes and a Bike mat, and a virtual onboarding session.²

A Peloton Membership recurs on a monthly or annual basis until it is cancelled, so an unmanaged membership keeps charging the deceased member's payment method until a survivor cancels it.¹

Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current Membership billing period. Peloton will not issue refunds or credits for a billing error reported more than 60 days after the billing date, except where required by applicable law.¹

An All-Access Membership can be paused for 1, 2 or 3 months; billing resumes automatically at the end of the pause, so it is a delay, not a stop.⁶

An App Membership bought through Apple or Google is billed by that store, and Peloton states it is not allowed to cancel a third-party App subscription on a member's behalf.⁶

Self-service cancellation at onepeloton.com/mymembership (Manage, then Pause or cancel) runs through the account sign-in; otherwise Member Support takes cancellation requests by phone or live chat.⁶

A cancelling member is not eligible for a prorated refund of the fee for the current Membership period, and discount offers that require payment, including annual subscriptions, are non-refundable.¹

Activation Codes have no cash value, even if tied to a set prepaid Membership period.¹

Peloton Protection Plans can be returned at any time for a pro-rated refund. Plans run 48 months.⁴

Peloton Apparel gift cards have no expiration date and are partially redeemable, and any unused balance remains on the card; they cannot be redeemed for cash except where required by law.⁷

Permanent account deletion runs through the Privacy Request Form with "Deletion/Erasure" as the request type; it deletes the account and all associated information, including workouts and achievements, and cannot be reversed.⁸
