What happens to Peacock accounts when the owner dies
NBCUniversal Media, LLC accounts are forfeited under the program's terms when the account is closed
Peacock Help Center
Peacock Help Center
Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current subscription term (Section 2.6.2); the Help Center states a confirmation message appears on screen and a confirmation email follows, which may take a few hours. Account deletion runs through the NBCUniversal privacy request route and Peacock publishes no service-level timeline for it. Section 5.3 lets Peacock terminate accounts inactive for an extended period (for example, more than one year), but paid subscriptions continue billing until cancelled regardless of activity. Peacock publishes no timeline for a discretionary refund or gift-card balance request because it publishes no estate process at all.
(General customer service)
When a Peacock account holder dies, accounts are forfeited under NBCUniversal Media, LLC's terms. The account balance has no transferable value, and there is no formal process for heirs to claim accounts.
Some families have reported receiving accommodations from NBCUniversal Media, LLC customer service, though this is not part of the official policy.
What to do
After a Peacock account holder's death, here is how to proceed:
- •With account access: sign in at peacocktv.com, open the account page, and select Cancel All Subscriptions -- this ends the base plan (Select, Premium, or Premium Plus) and every add-on, such as a regional sports network or Starz.
- •Without account access: the cancellation article states that if you cannot log in to cancel, you can cancel via chat, and the Account finder tool locates a subscription from a name plus payment details (credit card, PayPal email, or billing descriptor).
- •Peacock's live chat and email run through the Get in Touch page reached from peacocktv.com/help; the Help Center gives live-agent hours of 9:00AM to 1:00AM ET.
- •Cancellation takes effect at the end of the then-current subscription term (Section 2.6.2); cancel no later than the day before the next recurring billing date to avoid another charge.
- •A redeemed balance shows in the account under the Plans & Payment tab; the Gift Card Terms state the remaining balance "can be viewed at any time in the Account section of the Peacock Service."
- •For a Gift Card that was bought but never redeemed, Peacock's Help Center directs balance questions to Buyatab, the third party that sells digital Peacock Gift Cards, at merchantemail@buyatab.com or (855)-818-9719.
- •Section 4 of the Gift Card Terms states that Gift Cards "have no cash value, there are no credits, refunds or exchanges, and they may not be redeemed for cash, either before or after redemption, unless otherwise required by applicable law," so a refund to the estate is a discretionary request, not an entitlement.
- •Apple (App Store), Google Play, Roku, and Amazon each cancel from inside their own subscription settings.
- •The Help Center cancellation article also lists DIRECTV (satellite, Stream, and the Movies Extra Pack), Spectrum, Verizon, Xfinity, and Xumo TV (XClass TV) as third-party billers to contact directly.
- •If the Peacock subscription came bundled with another product or membership, the underlying purchase has to be cancelled to end the Peacock benefit.
Required Documents
- No formal documentation policy is published by Peacock for deceased account holders -- neither the Terms of Service nor any of the 120 pages in the Help Center corpus addresses death, estates, or beneficiaries
- Account credentials (email and password) for self-service cancellation, payment history, and gift-card balance through the account page
- The name plus a payment detail (credit card, PayPal email, or billing descriptor) for the Help Center Account finder flow when credentials are unavailable
- Letters testamentary or the equivalent appointment order, plus a death certificate, to show that the writer is the personal representative referenced in Terms of Service Section 9.5
- For an NBCUniversal privacy rights request submitted on the decedent's behalf, whatever the authorized-agent form asks for; NBCUniversal states it will "take reasonable steps to verify your identity, including authenticating you through the email address" and may require further documentation
- Gift Card number and PIN, or the purchase confirmation, if the estate is asking about an unredeemed Gift Card balance through Buyatab
Timeline
Frequently asked questions
Peacock publishes no bereavement-specific policy. The paid subscription has to be cancelled to stop charges, and a separate deletion request closes the account itself. Section 2.2 of the Terms of Service states that "Subscription purchases have no monetary value ... and are purchases of only a limited, non-exclusive, revocable, non-assignable, and non-transferable right to access and use the Peacock Service," and Section 9.5 voids any assignment made without Peacock's prior written consent, so content access ends when the subscription ends. The one thing worth checking before closing the account is a Peacock Gift Card credit, which the Gift Card Terms say is stored on the account until used and does not expire.
Peacock does not promise it. Section 4 of the Peacock Gift Card Terms states that Gift Cards "have no cash value, there are no credits, refunds or exchanges, and they may not be redeemed for cash, either before or after redemption, unless otherwise required by applicable law," and Peacock's own refund article says "Peacock charges are generally non-refundable. Peacock reserves the right to issue refunds at its sole discretion." That discretion is what an estate request is addressed to. A redeemed balance shows in the account under Plans & Payment; for a Gift Card bought but never redeemed, Peacock directs balance questions to Buyatab at merchantemail@buyatab.com or (855)-818-9719.
Section 2.6.1 of the Terms of Service directs users to "LOG INTO YOUR PEACOCK SERVICE ACCOUNT AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS ON YOUR ACCOUNT DETAILS PAGE." With credentials, sign in and select Cancel All Subscriptions, which ends the base plan and every add-on. Without credentials, Peacock's cancellation article states that if you cannot log in to cancel, you can cancel via chat, and the Help Center Account finder locates the subscription from a name plus payment details. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing term (Section 2.6.2), so cancel no later than the day before the next recurring billing date.
Not as of right. Section 2.2 of the Terms of Service states: "You may not transfer, sell, purchase, barter, or trade your subscription or attempt or offer to do so. Any attempted transfer will be null and void." Section 9.5 voids any assignment without Peacock's prior written consent. Section 9.5 also says the Terms "inure to the benefit of the parties and their respective successors, heirs, executors, administrators, personal representatives, and permitted assigns," so a personal representative can ask Peacock for that written consent as a discretionary courtesy, but family members otherwise have to create their own accounts.
No. Cancellation stops billing but leaves the account, email address, profile, watchlist, viewing history, and payment records on file. Deletion is a separate request, and Peacock routes it through the NBCUniversal privacy page rather than through the account. Peacock warns that a deletion request "may result in the removal of your plan and paid or unpaid accounts with Peacock and may impact your access to other NBCUniversal brands and platforms," and "may be treated as a cancellation by you," so an estate should resolve payment records and any gift-card credit first.
Peacock cannot stop charges billed by a third party. Section 2.7 of the Terms of Service places the billing relationship with the third party, whose own terms on billing, cancellation, and refunds control. Peacock's cancellation article lists Amazon, Apple, DIRECTV (satellite, Stream, and the Movies Extra Pack), Google Play, Roku, Spectrum, Verizon, Xfinity, and Xumo TV (XClass TV) as billers to contact directly. If Peacock came bundled with another product or membership, the underlying purchase has to be cancelled to end the benefit.
Peacock publishes no customer-service phone number. The Help Center Account finder at peacocktv.com/help/account-finder locates a subscription from the holder's first and last name plus one payment detail (credit card, PayPal email, or billing descriptor). Peacock's Contact Us article directs users to the Get in Touch page to send an email message or chat with a live agent from 9:00AM to 1:00AM ET, and lists direct message on social at @PeacockTVCare on X and Facebook and @Peacock on Instagram. For records or deletion, NBCUniversal publishes a privacy rights request route including an authorized-agent webform and, for California and Colorado residents or their authorized agents, 1-800-447-0663.
Under the official terms, accounts have no value after the account holder dies. The only way to preserve the value of Peacock accounts is to redeem, transfer, or share them while the account is active.
