When a Paramount+ account holder dies, accounts are forfeited under Paramount Skydance Corporation's terms. The account balance has no transferable value, and there is no formal process for heirs to claim accounts.

Some families have reported receiving accommodations from Paramount Skydance Corporation customer service, though this is not part of the official policy.

What to do

When a Paramount+ account holder dies, these are the steps to take:

1
Identify how the subscription is billed before cancelling. Billed directly by Paramount+? Through the App Store (Apple), Google Play, Roku, Amazon, or Fire TV? Bundled through a wireless carrier (T-Mobile, Verizon), retailer (Walmart+), or pay-TV provider? The cancellation path differs for each.
2
Cancel the deceased's Paramount+ subscription:
  • With account access (billed by Paramount+ directly): go to paramountplus.com/account, scroll to Subscription & Billing, and select Cancel Subscription. Access continues to the end of the paid period.
  • Without account access: open the Help Center chat at help.paramountplus.com (click the speech-bubble icon and type "Agent") with the deceased's account email and the last four digits of the payment card on file. The Terms of Use direct all customer-service inquiries to the Help Center chat - Paramount+ does not publish a deceased-member phone path.
  • If billed through Apple: cancel in iPhone/iPad Settings > [Apple ID] > Subscriptions > Paramount+.
  • If billed through Google Play: cancel in the Play Store app under Payments & Subscriptions > Subscriptions > Paramount+.
  • If billed through Roku, Amazon, or Fire TV: cancel in that device's subscription management screen.
3
Check whether the deceased had the Paramount+ Premium plan (formerly "Paramount+ with SHOWTIME"). SHOWTIME is integrated into the Premium tier; cancelling Paramount+ ends SHOWTIME access. Standalone SHOWTIME streaming subscriptions purchased before the merger must be cancelled separately through their original billing channel.
4
If Paramount+ was included as a benefit of another service (T-Mobile, Verizon, Walmart+, Best Buy Totaltech, a cable/satellite provider), contact that provider to disentangle the benefit. Paramount+ cancellation alone will not stop charges from the parent service.
5
Sign out all devices and remove the payment method on file before cancellation to prevent accidental re-activation.
6
Understand what is lost at cancellation: downloaded titles become unplayable, watchlists (My List), viewing history, and continue-watching progress cannot be exported or transferred to another account. Paramount+ does not offer a personal-data download tool comparable to Netflix's.
7
If family members share the account, they should create their own Paramount+ subscriptions before the deceased's account is cancelled. Profiles cannot be migrated.

Required Documents

  • No formal documentation policy published by Paramount+ for deceased account holders
  • Account email and payment-card last-four digits needed to cancel via Help Center chat without login
  • Death certificate and proof of relationship may be requested if contacting support without account access (not publicly documented but standard for streaming services)

Frequently asked questions

Paramount+ has no published bereavement policy. The account must be cancelled, which ends all content access. Content is licensed rather than owned, so there is nothing to transfer. Profiles, watchlists (My List), and viewing history are not transferable to another Paramount+ account. Downloaded titles become unplayable once the subscription ends.

With login access, go to paramountplus.com/account, scroll to Subscription & Billing, and select Cancel Subscription. Without login access, open the Help Center chat at help.paramountplus.com (click the speech-bubble icon and type "Agent") with the account email and the last four digits of the payment card on file. The Terms of Use direct all customer-service inquiries to that chat - Paramount+ does not publish a deceased-member phone line. If Paramount+ was billed through Apple, Google, Roku, Amazon, T-Mobile, Verizon, Walmart+, or a pay-TV provider, you must also cancel through that provider; Paramount+ cancellation alone will not stop those charges.

No. Profiles, watchlists (My List), viewing history, and continue-watching progress are tied to the account and cannot be migrated to a different Paramount+ account. Unlike Netflix, Paramount+ does not offer a profile transfer feature. Family members who want to keep their recommendations need to build a profile on their own Paramount+ account.

SHOWTIME is integrated into the Paramount+ Premium plan (formerly "Paramount+ with SHOWTIME"). Cancelling Paramount+ ends SHOWTIME access. Standalone SHOWTIME streaming subscriptions that pre-dated the integration must be cancelled separately through the original billing channel. Family members who want SHOWTIME content need their own Paramount+ Premium subscription.

Paramount+ bundled with a wireless carrier (T-Mobile, Verizon) or retail membership (Walmart+) is tied to the parent subscription. To stop the benefit, contact that provider directly. Paramount+ itself cannot cancel a bundle it did not bill for, and cancelling Paramount+ through its own account page does not cancel the parent service.

Section 5.8(a)(ii)(C) of the Paramount+ Terms of Use states "YOU WILL NOT BE REFUNDED FOR ANY FEES YOU HAVE PAID" on cancellation, with limited refund exceptions at Paramount's discretion. The estate generally cannot recover the unused portion of an annual prepaid plan; access continues to the end of the paid term. Discretionary refund requests go through the Help Center chat at help.paramountplus.com.

Paramount+ does not offer a self-service personal-data export comparable to Netflix's. Viewing history, ratings, and watchlists are visible in the account UI but cannot be exported in a structured format. California, Colorado, Virginia, and other state privacy laws allow the executor (as authorized agent for the deceased) to request a copy via Paramount's privacy portal, but there is no streamlined tool for this.

Under the official terms, accounts have no value after the account holder dies. The only way to preserve the value of Paramount+ accounts is to redeem, transfer, or share them while the account is active.
