“The EA Services are licensed to you, not sold. EA grants you a personal, limited, non-transferable (i.e., not for sharing), revocable and non-exclusive license to use the EA Services to which you have access for your non-commercial use, subject to your compliance with this Agreement.”1
What Electronic Arts Inc. says happens9
- Purchased content and licenses
Authentication is limited to one EA Account per serial code, so a purchased EA PC Game is not transferable.1
- Closing the account
If an EA Account is terminated, the holder has no access to the account or its Entitlements, the license terminates with it, and no Entitlements are credited or converted to cash or other forms of reimbursement.1
The Privacy and Cookie Policy states that an account can be deactivated or its personal information deleted by contacting EA Help, and the My Privacy Rights portal directs permanent deletion requests to an EA Help ticket.2, 3
- Deletion and data retention
Deleting an EA Account removes access to entitlements, games, subscriptions and in-game purchases.4
- Restoring a deleted account
An EA Account deletion request can be cancelled within five days of the request, after which EA states it cannot be undone.4
- Balances, payouts and refunds
EA Virtual Currency has no monetary value outside EA’s products and services, cannot be sold, traded, transferred or exchanged for cash, and is non-refundable.1
EA Wallet funds attach to the EA Account, are non-transferrable and non-exchangeable, and cannot be withdrawn. The wallet is capped at $300, with a $200 daily spend limit.5
Unused EA Wallet funds do not expire but "may become subject to statutory unclaimed property laws," and EA states it will attempt to contact the holder before escheating them, so an unspent balance can end up claimable from the state.5
The Terms of Sale provide that "there are no refunds for EA Content purchased from EA unless expressly authorized by EA."6
- Subscriptions and billing
An EA Play membership renews automatically until cancelled. It can be cancelled at any time by contacting Customer Support at EA Help, and access continues to the end of the paid period.6
A membership joined through Steam, Epic, PlayStation or Xbox can only be cancelled with that store.7
- How requests are reviewed
The account-merge process and the written-authorization clause in the Terms of Sale are written for a player’s own accounts and are not offered as a death process; any move of games to another account is at EA’s discretion.8, 6
- Verifying the requester
EA verifies account ownership before acting, and its Privacy and Cookie Policy allows an authorized agent to make a data privacy request through EA Help.2
- Passwords and login
A request goes through an EA Help ticket, with the sender’s own contact details, rather than by signing in as the deceased.9

A written request to Electronic Arts can ask it to refund an unspent balance, provide purchase and transaction records for the estate inventory, transfer the game library to a named family member, close the account and preserve the account while the estate is opened.
Nothing in the account survives the holder, and Electronic Arts allows no lifetime transfer of it either.
