Estate planning as a EA App account holder

The EA app (which replaced Origin) is Electronic Arts’ PC game launcher and store. The estate-relevant asset is the EA Account and the game Entitlements tied to it — purchased games, expansions, and downloadable content, plus any EA Play subscription. Under EA’s User Agreement, the account and its entitlements are a personal, non-transferable license to use the EA Services, not owned property; they are not designed to be inherited, and EA publishes no process to move an account, library, or progress to another person.

EA App game library are forfeited at death under the program's terms. The terms explicitly state that game library are not the account holder's property and cannot be inherited, transferred by will, or assigned through any estate planning mechanism.

What happens at death

EA’s User Agreement grants "a personal, limited, non-transferable (i.e., not for sharing), revocable and non-exclusive license to use the EA Services," and instructs that the account "is yours, don’t share it." Purchased games are non-transferable: "Authentication is limited to one EA Account per serial code, which means the EA PC Game is not transferable." If an account is terminated, "you will not have access to your EA Account or Entitlements and may be barred from accessing or using any EA Service again," and the license terminates with it. EA Help also states it cannot transfer content to another EA Account and cannot move progress between accounts. The User Agreement contains no language addressing death, estate, succession, or beneficiaries, and EA publishes no deceased-account transfer process. In practice this means an EA Account and its game library are not inheritable: the license ends with the account holder, and the games cannot be moved to a family member’s account.
