Brand change
Huntington Bancshares completed its merger with Veritex on October 20, 2025, and former Veritex accounts, cards, checks, and branches converted to Huntington Bank on January 20, 2026 (Veritex online and mobile banking ended January 16, 2026). The Veritex brand is retired -- all former Veritex locations now operate as Huntington Bank branches. Former Veritex customers bank with Huntington; this page stays live to help heirs settle legacy Veritex (and predecessor Green Bank) accounts. Effective January 2026.
Veritex is now part of Huntington. The procedures below reflect Veritex's accounts during the transition. View the Huntington estate planning page.

What happens to Veritex accounts after the account holder dies depends on how each account was titled. Beneficiary-designated and trust-owned accounts transfer directly. Accounts in the deceased's name alone go through the estate, and the executor or administrator works with Veritex's Huntington Personal Trust and Estate Services (successor to Veritex) (1-800-480-2265) to claim the funds.
Veritex provides an online portal for initiating death claims, which can simplify the initial notification and document submission process. Claims can also be started by phone or by mailing the required documents.
To file a claim after an account holder's death, here is what Veritex requires:
The Veritex brand is retired: Huntington completed the merger on October 20, 2025 and former Veritex accounts converted to Huntington Bank on January 20, 2026. Direct death claims for former Veritex accounts to Huntington Bank Death Claims at 1-800-480-2265 (daily 7:00 AM - 8:00 PM ET), or mail the Huntington Customer Service Center (EA5C42), P.O. Box 1558, Columbus, OH 43216. Under Texas Estates Code Ch. 205, small estates valued at $75,000 or less (excluding homestead and exempt property) may qualify for a Small Estate Affidavit, filed with the county clerk in the county where the decedent resided, which allows heirs to collect assets without full probate.
Mortgages and home equity loans are liabilities, not assets. They do not have beneficiaries and cannot be retitled to a trust. When a borrower dies, the loan obligation transfers with the property to whoever inherits it. Under the federal Garn-St. Germain Act, the lender cannot accelerate the loan or call it due when the property transfers to a surviving spouse, child, or the borrower’s revocable trust.
Under the federal Garn-St. Germain Depository Institutions Act (12 U.S.C. 1701j-3), the bank cannot enforce a due-on-sale clause when the property transfers to a surviving spouse, child, relative upon death, or the borrower's revocable living trust.
Veritex accepts a claimant-drafted letter of instruction. We draft it for you — addressed to Veritex's verified claims department, with the documents it requires enclosed.
Build your letter of instructionHow long the process takes at Veritex: POD beneficiaries may access funds upon providing death certificate and valid ID; estate accounts vary based on probate requirements. The most common reason for delays is missing or incomplete documentation, so submitting everything upfront is the best way to keep things moving.
Documentation required by Veritex includes Certified death certificate, Government-issued photo ID for claimant, and Letters Testamentary or Letters of Administration (if no POD designation), along with additional paperwork that varies by account type. All death certificates and court documents must be certified copies.
Since Veritex accounts transitioned to Huntington Bank on January 20, 2026, death claims for former Veritex accounts should be directed to Huntington Bank. Call Huntington Bank Death Claims at 1-800-480-2265 (daily 7:00 AM - 8:00 PM ET) to report the death and receive instructions, or mail the Huntington Customer Service Center (EA5C42), P.O. Box 1558, Columbus, OH 43216. You will need a certified death certificate and government-issued photo ID. For POD accounts, the beneficiary can claim funds with these documents. For non-POD accounts, Letters Testamentary or Letters of Administration from a Texas probate court are required.
Under Texas Estates Code Chapter 205, estates valued at $75,000 or less (excluding homestead and exempt property) may qualify for a Small Estate Affidavit, which allows heirs to collect assets without full probate. The affidavit must be filed with the county clerk in the county where the decedent resided. For former Veritex accounts now at Huntington Bank, present the court-approved Small Estate Affidavit along with a certified death certificate and government-issued ID.
