Filing a death claim on a Sammons Financial policy begins with notifying the Death Claims (Life Insurance: 800-733-2524 | Annuity Claims: 877-880-6367) at 1-800-733-2524. Frequently asked questions

An ILIT is an irrevocable trust that owns a life insurance policy. Because the trust, not the insured, owns the policy, the death benefit proceeds are generally excluded from the insured's taxable estate. To set up an ILIT with a North American or Midland National policy, work with an estate planning attorney to create the trust, then contact the issuing company to obtain the ownership transfer form. A 3-year lookback period applies per IRC Section 2035 for transfers of existing policies. The insurer reserves the right to request and review trust documents.

Beneficiaries can typically choose from several settlement options: a lump sum paid all at once, installments paid over time, an interest option where the death benefit is left on deposit to accrue interest, or a life income option where the insurance payout is converted to an annuity with guaranteed payments for the rest of the beneficiary's life. The specific options are detailed in the claims packet.

For life insurance claims (both companies): call 800-733-2524 (international: 712-847-1350). For annuity claims: call 877-880-6367 (international: 712-847-1341). For North American general inquiries: life 877-872-0757, annuity 866-322-7069. For Midland National general inquiries: life 800-923-3223, annuity 877-586-0244.
