What to do when a Centris FCU account holder dies
Report the death to Centris FCU's Specialized Accounts at 1-800-334-2328
After a member of Centris FCU dies, the Specialized Accounts manages the transfer of accounts. POD-designated and trust-owned accounts pass directly to beneficiaries. Accounts held solely in the member's name may require probate court documents—Letters Testamentary or Letters of Administration—before funds can be released.
Begin by calling Centris FCU at 1-402-334-7000. You will need the deceased's full name, account numbers, and the death certificate to get the process started.
Death claim process
Here is the step-by-step death claim process at Centris FCU:
Filing a claim
What happens to each kind of account1
- Account in one name
The bylaws let Centris keep a deceased member's share account open, unless it was held jointly with another member, until the end of the dividend period in which the estate's administration is finished.1
What Centris FCU's agreement and guidance say5
- What it does when notified
After an account owner dies, Centris's specialists follow up with the designated contact, set up an estate account and set up online banking for it.2
- Online access
Online banking on a fiduciary account is set up through one of the Specialized Accounts appointments, not the general online banking help line.2
- Holds and legal process
A member who is behind on a loan to Centris, or who co-signed or guaranteed one, may not draw shares down below the past-due amount without written approval from the credit committee or a loan officer.1
- Membership
Membership is open to people who live, work, worship or attend school in eight Nebraska counties (Cass, Dodge, Douglas, Sarpy, Saunders, Lincoln, McPherson, Washington) or three Iowa counties (Harrison, Mills, Pottawattamie), and to relatives of members.3
- Fees
An outgoing domestic wire costs $25 and an international wire $40; wires go out until 3:45 p.m. on weekdays, and some need a signature at a branch.2
