Wix does not guarantee transfer of accounts after death. Lifetime planning provides options for managing accounts and controlling who has access to them.

How to protect your Wix accounts

5 steps for managing your Wix accounts during your lifetime:

1
Add a trusted person as an Admin (Co-Owner) for immediate access:
  • Admins have full access to manage, edit, and publish the site, including billing and the Payments dashboard
  • Admins cannot delete or transfer the site and cannot connect a new domain
  • Only the original site owner can initiate a site transfer, so Admin access alone does not ensure full continuity
2
Transfer full site ownership while you are alive:
  • Open the site dashboard, click Site Actions, and select "Transfer site"
  • Complete the Transfer Ownership form with the recipient's email and relationship
  • Toggle what to transfer: premium plan, domain, Google Workspace business email, premium apps
  • Choose whether to remain as Co-Owner and whether to keep a copy in your account
  • The invite expires in 3 days; the recipient must manage future payments
  • Wix Payments accounts do not transfer; customer recurring subscriptions must be canceled and recreated under the new owner's Wix Payments
  • Existing blog posts display on the transferred site as read-only
3
Export critical data as a backup:
  • Export CRM contacts as CSV (Regular, Google, or Outlook format; up to 50,000 per export)
  • Export e-commerce orders as CSV (covers Stores, Bookings, Restaurants, Donations, and Pricing Plans)
  • Export product list as CSV (up to 5,000 rows; digital products excluded)
  • Export booking reports as CSV (Booking List and Staff Hours report types)
  • Export form submissions as CSV
  • Export CMS collection content as CSV
  • Download media files from the Media Manager (images, videos, audio, documents)
  • Blog posts cannot be exported to other platforms (Wix feature request, not supported)
4
Transfer domains to another registrar:
  • Go to Domains, click Domain Actions, and select "Transfer away from Wix"
  • Wix sends an EPP/authorization code to the registrant email
  • Provide the code to the receiving registrar (transfer takes up to 7 days)
  • A 60-day lock applies after purchase or registrant information changes (ICANN rule)
5
Note that your Wix account exists and which email it uses, so your executor can identify it. Only the Owner can transfer sites, and Wix may decline third-party access requests through support.

Family sharing

Wix supports transferring full premium sites to another Wix account. The transfer includes the site design and content, all media files, Wix Stores products and categories, CRM site contacts, site members, email marketing campaigns, premium apps, and optionally the premium plan, domain, and Google Workspace business email. Payment information, the Wix Payments account, purchased logos, Google Ads campaigns, Facebook Ads campaigns, and Velo Secrets Manager data do not transfer. Existing blog posts become read-only on the transferred site. Active Facebook Ads prevent site transfer entirely (auto-renewal must be turned off and the campaign must expire first). The transfer invite expires in 3 days if not accepted.

Should you save your passwords for your family?

Some people store account passwords so a family member can sign in later. The practice has three practical limits:

  • Two-factor authentication often blocks it. Most accounts require a second factor — a code sent to a phone, an authenticator app, a passkey, or a physical key. A saved password alone frequently does not grant access, and the recovery codes that would are easy to lose or let go stale.
  • It usually conflicts with the platform's terms. Most operators prohibit account sharing and signing in as another person, including after a death. Stored credentials are not the operator's recognized access path, and using them can violate the terms of service.
  • Operators provide other paths. Where an operator offers a designation tool — Apple's Legacy Contact, Google's Inactive Account Manager, a beneficiary designation — that mechanism grants access the operator recognizes. A password manager's own emergency-access or legacy feature passes credentials through a controlled process. Digital assets named in a will or trust give a fiduciary authority under each state's Revised Uniform Fiduciary Access to Digital Assets Act (RUFADAA).

Listing the Wix account in an estate inventory identifies it for a fiduciary, who works through the operator's official channels to manage or close it.

Wix does not offer beneficiary designations, so there is no program-level mechanism for directing accounts to a specific person at death.
