What happens to a SoundCloud account when someone dies

“You must not sell or transfer, or offer to sell or transfer, any SoundCloud account to any third party without the prior written approval of SoundCloud.”¹

The Terms of Use state that content "is uploaded, owned and controlled solely by you."¹

Due to legal restrictions, SoundCloud passes access only to immediate family members or those authorized to act on behalf of the estate.²

The SoundCloud Monetization Terms prohibit assigning those terms, whether by operation of law or otherwise, without SoundCloud Monetization's prior written consent.³

SoundCloud asks a number of verification questions before acting, and the only means it has of verifying ownership is the email address used to create the account.⁴

Requests go to SoundCloud's legal team, which says it "will respond to you as soon as possible."²

Once an account is terminated, any and all content in it is irretrievably deleted by SoundCloud, subject to retention the law requires or permits.¹

Deleting an account deletes all data associated with it, including the uploaded sounds and their usage data, which may not be recoverable.⁵

SoundCloud's Privacy Policy keeps personal data while the contract is ongoing and, for legal obligations, for 3 years following the end of the year the contract was cancelled.⁶

Account activity data is viewable only through the account while it is active, and SoundCloud cannot provide a .csv or similar file of it before or after termination.¹

The Terms of Use prohibit using another person's account or password without that person's express permission.¹

If an Artist or Artist Pro subscription ends, distributed or monetized content is taken down from third-party distribution partners and demonetized 30 days after it ends, with 30 days to renew.⁷

On a downgrade, the oldest uploads over the plan's limit (180 minutes for Artist, 120 minutes for Basic) are hidden from listeners but not deleted.⁷

A cancelled Go subscription keeps its features until the current billing cycle ends, then reverts to the free experience; SoundCloud does not refund delivered subscription periods.⁸

Subscriptions bought through the Apple App Store or Google Play are cancelled with Apple or Google, and SoundCloud cannot help with cancellations or refunds for subscriptions bought on iOS devices.⁸

Under the Terms of Use, SoundCloud offers no refund for the unexpired period of a subscription when the agreement is terminated before the subscription ends.¹

SoundCloud Monetization pays each calendar month's on-platform earnings within 45 days, and off-platform distribution revenue within 60 days after it receives it, to the payout method the artist designated.³

After the monetization term ends, SoundCloud Monetization issues a final statement of any amounts that may be due, and statements become final 2 years after issue unless objected to in writing.³

Balances under $25 USD roll over to the next month, and earnings are reported on roughly a two-month delay, with payments typically on the last business day of the month.⁹

Premier monetization pays to the PayPal account selected in the agreement, generally within 45 days after the end of the reporting period once monthly earnings reach $5 USD.¹⁰
