Timeline

No published bereavement timeline, because Poshmark publishes no bereavement process. The published timings an estate will actually work against: Poshmark Support replies to email "within 1-2 business days"; a buyer may cancel an unshipped order from the start of the 8th day after purchase; a buyer has 72 hours after delivery to open a Posh Protect return case, and payment releases automatically to the seller if no case is opened within 3 days of delivery; Poshmark requires up to 10 business days after a redemption request before an account deletion can complete; a law-enforcement inquiry gets an initial response in up to 7 business days. Redemption itself settles in 2-3 business days (Direct Deposit), 30 minutes or less (Instant Transfer, PayPal, Venmo), or about 2 weeks (check). The escheatment "period of statutory required account dormancy" is not specified in the Terms and is set by the applicable state's unclaimed-property statute, not by Poshmark.

Poshmark, Inc. (Naver Corporation)'s terms state that accounts are not the property of the account holder and are forfeited at death. The program does not provide a mechanism for transferring accounts to heirs.

There are reports of Poshmark, Inc. (Naver Corporation) making exceptions through customer service, but these accommodations are discretionary and not guaranteed.

What to do

When a Poshmark account holder dies, these are the steps to take:

1
Write to Poshmark Support at support@poshmark.com to report the death and open the account question. Poshmark states that "At this time, Poshmark offers customer support exclusively through email" and that its team "typically responds within 1-2 business days"; there is no published phone line and no bereavement channel. See Does Poshmark offer phone support?.
2
Be ready to state the account and your authority. Poshmark publishes no required-document list for a deceased user, so the following is the ordinary estate-claim set rather than a Poshmark requirement, and support should be asked to confirm what it actually wants:
  • The @username and the email address registered to the closet — Poshmark identifies accounts by these
  • A certified copy of the death certificate
  • Documentation showing you are authorized to act for the estate (for example, Letters Testamentary or Letters of Administration)
  • Government-issued photo identification for the person making the request
3
Deal with live listings and in-flight orders first, because they keep running on their own. Every action Poshmark documents here is account-interior, so an estate that cannot operate the account has to ask Poshmark to act rather than sign in as the decedent:
  • Listings stay purchasable until someone takes them down; there is no automatic deactivation when a closet goes quiet. Vacation Hold sets existing listings to Not For Sale, but Poshmark notes that listings "can still be viewed, liked, commented on, and shared" while it is on, and that new listings created during a hold default to Available.
  • A buyer whose order has not shipped can cancel it: Poshmark states that "If your order has not been shipped after 7 days from the time it was purchased, you can cancel your order for a full refund" and that "We are unable to cancel orders until the start of the 8th day from the date of purchase." See How to cancel a delayed order.
  • Unshipped orders that the estate cannot fulfil should be cancelled rather than left. Poshmark warns that sellers "who repeatedly cancel or fail to ship orders may face temporary account restrictions" and that continued violations "may result in permanent account suspension."
  • Items already shipped but not yet accepted release on their own: under Posh Protect a buyer has 72 hours after delivery to open a return case, and "If no return case is opened within 3 days of delivery, payment will be automatically released to the seller."
4
Ask for the account records BEFORE anything is deleted. Deletion is permanent, and the sales history is what an estate needs to value the resale activity and reconcile a final return (Poshmark issues a Form 1099-K to sellers who meet the threshold). The published route is Poshmark's consumer privacy-rights request: its California Privacy Notice describes a "Right to Know (Access)" covering "the specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you," and directs that "You may email privacy@poshmark.com for assistance exercising your rights." Poshmark's Privacy Policy also documents an authorized-agent route, but requires "proof that the consumer has provided permission" and notes it "may still require the consumer to verify their own identity directly with us" — a condition an estate cannot satisfy, so expect to be asked for the death certificate and letters of appointment instead, and expect Poshmark to decide at its discretion.
5
Understand what blocks closure before requesting it. Poshmark states that a deletion will not complete while the account still has:
  • Pending transactions, "which can include unreceived orders, tracking delays, and open returns"
  • Redeemable balances
  • Gift cards with balances — and a redeemed gift-card balance "cannot be transferred to another account," so it has no path to the estate
  • Poshmark also states it "requires up to 10 business days from the time a redemption request is made prior to completing an account deletion."
6
Request closure knowing Poshmark's two pages disagree about whether it can be done in writing. How to delete my account states that deletion is self-service and that "we cannot process any deletion requests that are submitted through a written request to Poshmark Support." How do I shut down and delete my Poshmark account? states the opposite — "If you'd like to start a Vacation Hold or permanently delete your account, please reach out to Poshmark Support beforehand so we can make the appropriate changes on our end." Quote the second page when asking, and treat the outcome as Poshmark's to decide.
7
Ask Poshmark how it will release the redeemable balance to the estate. Poshmark holds the earnings, and its ordinary redemption route pays only to a bank or payment account whose name matches the verified Seller KYC legal name, so the estate cannot use that route and should not sign in to the closet to try. Put the question to Poshmark Support in writing with the death certificate and letters of appointment. If the balance is not released, Section 10(m) provides that Poshmark escheats unclaimed funds to the relevant government authorities after a statutory dormancy period, after which it is claimed from the applicable state's unclaimed-property office in the same way as any other unclaimed property of the estate.

Required Documents

  • No documented requirements published by Poshmark — it publishes no deceased-user process
  • The @username and the email address registered to the closet — how Poshmark identifies an account
  • Certified copy of the death certificate — not a Poshmark requirement, but standard when asking a marketplace to act on a deceased person's account
  • Documentation showing you are authorized to act for the estate (for example, Letters Testamentary or Letters of Administration)
  • Government-issued photo identification for the person making the request
  • State unclaimed-property claim documents — potentially needed later if Poshmark escheats an unredeemed balance under Section 10(m)

Frequently asked questions

No. Poshmark publishes no bereavement form, no dedicated support article, and no escalation path for deceased users. Its current Terms of Service contain no occurrence of death, deceased, estate, executor, probate, or inherit, and a search of all 310 published support articles for the same terms returns nothing. Support is email only, at support@poshmark.com, with a reply typically within 1-2 business days.

Practically, no — and Poshmark says so twice, in slightly different words. Section 2(e) of the Terms of Service states: "You cannot transfer or assign your Account to a third party without prior written consent from Poshmark... You cannot otherwise transfer, sell, or dispose of your Account under any circumstances." Poshmark's help centre puts it without the consent carve-out: "Poshmark accounts are strictly non-transferable—transferring ownership of an account to another person is prohibited." No workflow for obtaining consent is published, and the closet's non-cash assets — listings, photos, followers, Love Notes, Ambassador status, sales history — do not move to a new account.

The redeemable balance stays in the account until it is redeemed or escheated, and Poshmark does not publish whether it will release funds to an estate. Two facts shape the outcome. Redemption is identity-gated: Poshmark states that "the name on your bank or payment account must match the legal name or business entity associated with your Poshmark account" and that the Seller KYC details "determine who is authorized to redeem earnings," so the ordinary payout route is tied to the account holder and the estate has to ask Poshmark how it will release the balance. And Section 10(m) provides that "After a period of statutory required account dormancy, Poshmark will escheat any unclaimed funds to the relevant government authorities as necessary." The estate should ask Poshmark Support in writing how it will release the balance; a balance that is never released is later recoverable from the applicable state's unclaimed-property office, the same way as any other unclaimed property of the estate.

They stay purchasable. Poshmark does not automatically deactivate a closet that goes quiet. Vacation Hold sets existing listings to Not For Sale, but Poshmark notes listings "can still be viewed, liked, commented on, and shared" during a hold, that new listings created during one default to Available, and that a hold can be set for at most 6 months. A buyer whose order has not shipped can cancel from the start of the 8th day after purchase. Unfulfillable orders are better cancelled than left: Poshmark warns that sellers who repeatedly cancel or fail to ship "may face temporary account restrictions" and that continued violations "may result in permanent account suspension."

Neither reaches the estate as cash. Posh Credits are promotional: Section 10(l) of the Terms states they "cannot, unless required by law, be redeemed for cash or cash equivalents, transferred or applied to prior purchases," and Poshmark adds that it "may cancel any Posh Credits at any time upon reasonable notice." A gift-card balance is different but equally stranded — Poshmark states gift cards "do not expire or incur fees," but once one is redeemed to an account the amount "cannot be transferred to another account." A gift-card balance also blocks the account from being deleted.

Poshmark's own two pages disagree, and an estate should expect to meet the conflict. "How to delete my account" states that users self-delete when signed in and that "we cannot process any deletion requests that are submitted through a written request to Poshmark Support." "How do I shut down and delete my Poshmark account?" states that "If you'd like to start a Vacation Hold or permanently delete your account, please reach out to Poshmark Support beforehand so we can make the appropriate changes on our end." Separately, Poshmark states a deletion will not complete while the account has pending transactions, a redeemable balance, or a gift card with a balance, and that it requires up to 10 business days after a redemption request before a deletion can complete.

There is a published route, but it is written around the account holder rather than an estate. Poshmark's California Privacy Notice describes a "Right to Know (Access)" covering "the specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you" and directs that "You may email privacy@poshmark.com for assistance exercising your rights." Its Privacy Policy documents an authorized-agent request but requires "proof that the consumer has provided permission" and notes Poshmark "may still require the consumer to verify their own identity directly with us." An estate should make the request in writing with the death certificate and letters of appointment, before requesting deletion, since deletion is permanent. Poshmark decides at its discretion.

Under the official terms, accounts have no value after the account holder dies. The only way to preserve the value of Poshmark accounts is to redeem, transfer, or share them while the account is active.
