ClassPass is a monthly fitness and wellness subscription that gives members a set number of credits each billing cycle to book classes and appointments at participating studios, gyms, and spas. The subscription automatically renews on the same day each month and bills the payment method on file until it is cancelled or terminated. The estate-relevant items are the recurring monthly charge, which keeps running until someone stops it, any unused credits, and any unredeemed ClassPass gift card. Credits have no cash or set value, are not transferable or refundable, are not redeemable for cash, are expressly stated not to be property, and expire immediately when the subscription is cancelled or terminated. ClassPass publishes no deceased-member process, and as of the September 2, 2026 Terms of Use it publishes no death provision of any kind: the earlier Section 3c refund of the current prepaid period on relocation, disability, or death has been removed, and Section 3(c) is now a flat no-refund clause. Gift cards are the exception — they are a separate product, carry no expiration date, and pass with title to whoever holds them.
When a ClassPass account holder dies, their credits are forfeited. The program's terms state that credits do not constitute property of the account holder and cannot be transferred upon death, by operation of law, or through estate planning documents.
What happens at death
A ClassPass membership and its credits are forfeited at death, and as of the current Terms of Use nothing is refunded. Credits are specific to a single ClassPass account, cannot be combined with or transferred to another account, and under Section 2(e) a member "may not sell, transfer, trade, gift, or otherwise exchange credits." The same section states that credits "have no cash value or any other value outside of the Platform, are not transferable or refundable, and are not redeemable for cash," and goes further: credits "are not property or fixed or certain interests in intangible property; money; virtual currency; an account balance in your favor (including user overpayments or amounts otherwise payable or refundable to you); a stored-value card or instrument (including gift cards, gift certificates, merchandise credits, or stored-value obligations such as prepaid cards); or unused tickets." Section 2(j) adds that "your account is personal to you" and that "you cannot transfer or gift Offerings, credits, or Zero-Credit Reservations to third parties or allow third parties to use your account." The subscription automatically renews and, under Section 3(a), the member authorizes ClassPass "to charge you for your initial subscription period and a recurring monthly subscription fee at the then current rate," so the recurring charge continues against the decedent's payment method until a survivor stops it. On cancellation or termination, "your unused credits will expire immediately except as stated in our rollover policy or otherwise in writing. There will be no refund or payment for any unused amount," and Section 3(f) adds that "if you cancel your subscription or it is terminated for any reason, you will lose access to all Offerings, content, credits, Zero-Credit Reservations, or features available through the subscription." Earlier revisions of the Terms carried one death-specific provision, in Section 3c: a refund of the current prepaid subscription period where the subscription was cancelled before the end of a charged period due to the member's relocation, disability, or death. THAT PROVISION IS GONE from the September 2, 2026 Terms. Section 3(c) now reads: "Refunds. Generally, our fees (including the monthly fee for your membership and any other fees) are nonrefundable unless we specifically communicate otherwise at the time of purchase. WE DO NOT PROVIDE REFUNDS OR MAKE GOODS FOR ANY PRIOR MONTHS INCLUDING FOR UNUSED CREDITS, ZERO-CREDIT RESERVATIONS, OR OFFERINGS." There is no deceased-member, bereavement, or estate channel either: a full scan of all 159 ClassPass Help Center articles on 2026-09-16 returned zero articles mentioning deceased, death, estate, executor, next of kin, survivor, bereavement, passed away, or inherit. A survivor stops the billing by asking ClassPass Customer Experience to cancel the membership, and anything beyond that is a discretionary request.
