What they do state is that the Rewards account identifier "and any accumulated Rewards is personal to you and may not be sold, transferred, or assigned to, or shared with, family, friends, or others," and that points, Rewards, account status, and other benefits "have no cash value and may not be redeemed for cash or sold, auctioned, bartered, brokered, purchased, transferred, assigned, or used to engage in any gambling activity." The terms further state that "In the event that your participation in Chipotle Rewards is terminated, then all accumulated points and Rewards in your account are void." There is no beneficiary designation and no published path to inherit points or Rewards. The balance is also subject to expiration on its own: "Rewards points expire after 365 days of account inactivity (i.e., no qualifying purchases), unless sooner terminated as a result of an account being deactivated as provided herein," and a Reward "expire[s] if not used within 60 days after they have been added to a participant's account" unless a shorter window is communicated with that particular Reward (the birthday reward, for example, carries a 30-day redemption window). Because the value cannot be transferred, assigned, or redeemed for cash, and because Chipotle publishes no bereavement or deceased-account procedure, the outcome at death is that unredeemed points and Rewards are lost once the account is closed or goes inactive. Any credit to a survivor would be a discretionary goodwill gesture by Chipotle, not a contractual right.
