Because Albertsons points are forfeited at death under Albertsons Companies, Inc.'s terms, the only way to preserve their value is through action taken while the account is active.
Albertsons lets multiple for U accounts be linked together to create a household. The for U Account FAQ states: "Multiple Albertsons for U accounts can be linked together to create a household. When such accounts are linked, Points earned are combined, and the same offers will be received." Linking and unlinking run through the Albertsons Customer Support Center toll-free line at 1-877-258-2799, or through the chat feature in the for U app or website ("Need Help?" under the Account section, then "I want to manage my household/connected accounts"). This household linking is the practical way a partner or family member keeps benefiting from the savings: a surviving household member on a linked account keeps using the pooled Points. It is sharing among linked household members, not a transfer of the account, Points, or rewards to an outside person — the for U terms separately prohibit assigning, gifting, selling, or otherwise transferring Points, and Albertsons Cash "cannot be transferred to another account."
How to protect your Albertsons points
6 steps for managing your Albertsons points during your lifetime:
Should you save your passwords for your family?
Some people store account passwords so a family member can sign in later. The practice has three practical limits:
- Two-factor authentication often blocks it. Most accounts require a second factor — a code sent to a phone, an authenticator app, a passkey, or a physical key. A saved password alone frequently does not grant access, and the recovery codes that would are easy to lose or let go stale.
- It usually conflicts with the platform's terms. Most operators prohibit account sharing and signing in as another person, including after a death. Stored credentials are not the operator's recognized access path, and using them can violate the terms of service.
- Operators provide other paths. Where an operator offers a designation tool — Apple's Legacy Contact, Google's Inactive Account Manager, a beneficiary designation — that mechanism grants access the operator recognizes. A password manager's own emergency-access or legacy feature passes credentials through a controlled process. Digital assets named in a will or trust give a fiduciary authority under each state's Revised Uniform Fiduciary Access to Digital Assets Act (RUFADAA).
Frequently asked questions
Treat for U Points, gas rewards, and grocery rewards as benefits to use during your lifetime, not as estate value, because they are non-transferable, have no cash value, and create no vested rights under the for U Program Terms. Redeem Points before they expire (within two calendar months of being earned, unless you hold an active FreshPass subscription). If you want a partner or family member to keep benefiting, link your for U account with theirs into a household so the Points combine; linking runs through the Albertsons Customer Support Center at 1-877-258-2799 or the chat feature in the for U app. Note the registered phone number, account email, or Member Card number where your executor can find them, and record any paid FreshPass subscription so it can be cancelled.
Adding an Albertsons Companies gift card to the Wallet is irreversible: Albertsons states the card is "automatically converted into Albertsons Cash," and "once the original Gift Card funds are transferred to Banner Cash, the card or digital code (physical or electronic) can no longer be used." A card left unloaded stays a physical or digital object that can simply be handed to a family member, while a balance converted into Albertsons Cash becomes account-bound, non-transferable between accounts, and reachable only through a request to Customer Service. Keeping the Wallet balance small, or spending it down, keeps the value where it can be used.
Listing the Albertsons account in an estate inventory identifies it for a fiduciary, who works through the operator's official channels to manage or close it.
Albertsons does not offer beneficiary designations, so there is no program-level mechanism for directing points to a specific person at death.
