Planning ahead for your Adobe accounts

Family sharing
Adobe accounts are not transferable. The General Terms of Use state at 3.1 (License) that "Each license is to be used by only one (1) person and cannot be shared," and at 18.4 (Non-Assignment) that "You may not assign or otherwise transfer the Terms or your rights and obligations under the Terms, in whole or in part, without our written consent, and any such attempt will be void." There is no family sharing, authorized user, or account transfer mechanism for individual accounts. Enterprise and Teams accounts are administered through the Adobe Admin Console, where a storage admin can transfer a departing user's assets to another user in the same organization, but the account itself is not transferred. The only lifetime preparation strategy for an individual account is downloading and locally storing cloud-synced files.
Should you save your passwords for your family?
Some people store account passwords so a family member can sign in later. The practice has three practical limits:
- Two-factor authentication often blocks it. Most accounts require a second factor — a code sent to a phone, an authenticator app, a passkey, or a physical key. A saved password alone frequently does not grant access, and the recovery codes that would are easy to lose or let go stale.
- It usually conflicts with the platform's terms. Most operators prohibit account sharing and signing in as another person, including after a death. Stored credentials are not the operator's recognized access path, and using them can violate the terms of service.
- Operators provide other paths. Where an operator offers a designation tool — Apple's Legacy Contact, Google's Inactive Account Manager, a beneficiary designation — that mechanism grants access the operator recognizes. A password manager's own emergency-access or legacy feature passes credentials through a controlled process. Digital assets named in a will or trust give a fiduciary authority under each state's Revised Uniform Fiduciary Access to Digital Assets Act (RUFADAA).

The Adobe Stock Product Specific Terms grant a Standard License that is non-exclusive, perpetual, worldwide, non-transferable, and non-sublicensable, except for the additional rights the same terms set out — which include licensing an asset for the benefit of an employer, and which the Adobe Stock licensing page describes as transferring the license to your client or employer. Adobe documents no assignment of a license to an heir or to another personal account. The terms also state that when a subscription ends, rights to unused credits and unused standard assets are forfeited, that perpetual licenses already granted survive, and that licensees should download assets they have licensed. That is the buyer side; if the person who died earned royalties as an Adobe Stock contributor, that account and its unpaid balance are covered at /digital-assets/adobe-stock/.
Adobe states that files in free cloud storage may be permanently deleted after a period of inactivity, and that an email notice is sent prior to deletion. Adobe does not publish a fixed inactivity period on the current pages. Because that notice goes to the account holder's own email address, an unattended account can reach the deletion point without anyone in the family seeing the warning, so an executor should act rather than wait.
Plan local-first. Periodically download Creative Cloud files, export Lightroom libraries to a local drive, save the Adobe Stock assets you have licensed, and export Acrobat Sign agreements. Then leave your executor the Adobe account email address and the subscription details — not the password, which they do not need: Adobe's deceased-account process runs from the requestor's own email address and asks for the account holder's Adobe ID plus documentation. For Enterprise or Teams, make sure an organization admin knows which files matter, since the Admin Console transfer is the only reclamation path Adobe documents.
