Preparing your WesBanco accounts for estate transfer involves two primary strategies: designating beneficiaries on individual accounts and, where supported, retitling accounts into a revocable living trust. Both approaches bypass probate, but they work differently depending on the account type.
With 13 product types, WesBanco offers a range of transfer options. Some accounts support Payable on Death (POD) designations, others can be retitled into a trust, and some require probate if no beneficiary is designated. The sections below break down each step.
- Bring a valid government-issued photo ID
- Request to add or update POD (Payable on Death) beneficiary designations on your deposit accounts
- Provide beneficiary information: full legal name, date of birth, Social Security number, and relationship
- Designate primary and contingent beneficiaries with allocation percentages
- Review and sign the beneficiary designation form
- Request a copy of the completed form for your records
Required Documents
- Trust name, date established, and tax ID (EIN or SSN)
Special Requirements
- Beneficiary designation forms must be completed in person or by mail; online beneficiary updates are not currently available for deposit accounts
- IRA beneficiary designations are managed through WesBanco Trust and Investment Services
- Trusts named as beneficiaries may require additional documentation including the trust agreement or Certification of Trust
