After a Webull account holder dies, accounts with beneficiary designations or trust ownership transfer to the designated recipients without probate. Solely-owned accounts require the estate's representative to contact Webull's Estate Support at 1-888-828-0618 with the proper legal authority documents.

Death claims at Webull can be started through an online portal, which streamlines the initial notification and document upload. Phone and mail options are also available.

Death claim process

Here is the step-by-step death claim process at Webull:

Filing a claim

1
Notify Webull and provide initial documentation
  • Start the estate process through the in-app Help Center, by emailing support@webull.com, or by calling 1-888-828-0618
  • Provide the deceased's account information and upload a certified death certificate; Webull runs intake through an online estate portal (webull.com/help/faq/10518-FAQs-for-Estate-Accounts)
2
Follow the appropriate claim process based on account type
  • For IRA accounts with beneficiaries: each beneficiary opens their own Webull inherited IRA to receive assets, transferred internally or by ACATS
  • For IRA accounts without beneficiaries: the surviving spouse becomes beneficiary; if no spouse, the estate is beneficiary
  • For brokerage accounts with a TOD designation: the named beneficiary provides ID and a certified death certificate, and the assets move to the beneficiary
  • For brokerage accounts without TOD: the executor provides Letters Testamentary or Letters of Administration
3
Complete the asset transfer
  • Small estates may qualify for a small estate affidavit in lieu of probate
  • Assets transferred or distributed per beneficiary designation or probate

Required Documents

  • Certified death certificate
  • Government-issued ID for all beneficiaries or executor
  • Letter of authorization
  • Estate letter or small estate affidavit (for brokerage accounts without TOD)
  • Letters Testamentary or Letters of Administration (if no beneficiary designation)
  • Completed claim/transfer forms as provided by Webull

What to know at this institution

IRA beneficiaries must open their own Webull account to receive inherited assets. If no IRA beneficiary is designated, the surviving spouse is the default beneficiary; if no surviving spouse, the estate is the beneficiary. Brokerage accounts may use the TOD form to avoid probate. Crypto assets are handled through the estate process.

Processing timelines at Webull: 4-8 weeks depending on documentation completeness. Incomplete documentation is the most common cause of delays—submitting all required documents with the initial claim helps avoid additional processing time.

Webull requires several documents to process a claim, including Certified death certificate, Government-issued ID for all beneficiaries or executor, and Letter of authorization, and additional documentation depending on the account type. Certified copies are typically needed—photocopies are generally not accepted for death certificates or court documents.

Frequently asked questions

Start the estate process through the in-app Help Center, email support@webull.com, or call 1-888-828-0618, then upload a certified death certificate. For IRA accounts with designated beneficiaries, each beneficiary opens their own Webull inherited IRA to receive assets. For brokerage accounts with a TOD designation, the named beneficiary claims the assets with ID and a death certificate; for brokerage accounts without TOD, probate documents such as Letters Testamentary or Letters of Administration are required.

Crypto assets held through Webull do not have a beneficiary designation option and are handled through the estate process. Start the claim through the in-app Help Center or by emailing support@webull.com. Probate documents such as Letters Testamentary or Letters of Administration may be required.

TOD beneficiaries can be designated on individual cash and margin accounts either in-app or with the Transfer on Death (TOD) Beneficiary Designation Form. Provide your account information, beneficiary names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, and share percentages. If using the form, submit it through the in-app Help Center, email support@webull.com, or mail it to Webull Financial LLC, 44 Wall St, Suite 501, New York, NY 10005. The designation is not effective until accepted by Webull, and is not available to residents of Louisiana, Texas, or Puerto Rico.

Webull's Estate Support can be reached by phone at 1-888-828-0618 and email at support@webull.com for questions throughout the claims process.

Multiple Webull investment accounts may mean multiple claims. Some account types can be processed together, but others require their own documentation. Check with the Estate Support to confirm what applies.
