Quorum FCU offers 9 accounts, each with its own rules for what happens when a member dies. As a membership-based credit union, Quorum FCU digital-first credit union with no retail branch network; accounts are opened and serviced online, by phone (800-874-5544), and through shared-branch and ATM networks. Membership is nationwide: eligibility comes from affiliation with a Select Employee Group (60+ partner companies including Kraft Heinz, Mastercard, Mondelez International, Ogilvy, and Hitachi), family relationship to an existing member, or free membership in the American Consumer Council, which qualifies applicants in any state. Membership is retained for life once established. NCUA insured. Some transfer automatically to a named beneficiary, others can be held in a trust, and a few may require probate if no plan is in place.

Beneficiary designations at Quorum FCU can be managed online, by mail, and by phone. Trust funding is also available, allowing families to retitle accounts into the name of a revocable living trust.

Frequently asked questions

Complete Quorum's Designation of Beneficiary Form (MB018_1213), available at quorumfcu.org. Choose New/Replace to revoke all prior designations or Add to supplement existing beneficiaries, then list each beneficiary with their name, address, date of birth, Social Security number, relationship, and percentage share. Enclose a copy of the primary member's driver's license and return the signed form by mail to Quorum, Attention: Operations, or by fax to (914) 641-3730. After the form is on file you can view and manage beneficiaries in online banking. This form cannot be used for IRA accounts.

The standard Designation of Beneficiary form cannot be used for IRA Savings or IRA Term accounts. Call Quorum at 800-874-5544 or 914-641-3700, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. ET, to obtain the separate IRA beneficiary form. A trust can be named as an IRA beneficiary, which may affect how distributions are taxed.

Yes. Quorum offers a Living Trust Account, and existing deposit accounts can be retitled into a revocable living trust. Because Quorum has no retail branches, the process is handled by phone and mail with the Operations department; call 800-874-5544 to request the documentation, which typically includes the trust agreement or a certification of trust, trustee identification, and the trust's Tax ID Number. Quorum notes that the member is responsible for obtaining legal counsel regarding the trust.
