How your Pacific Enterprise accounts transfer at death depends on how each one is titled and whether a beneficiary is on file. Of those, 11 can name a trust as beneficiary or be retitled into a trust. Getting these details right keeps assets out of probate and ensures they reach the intended recipients.

Account holders can update their beneficiary designations at Pacific Enterprise in branch and by phone. Accounts can also be retitled into a trust to keep them out of probate entirely.

There are two sides to estate planning at Pacific Enterprise: setting things up while you're alive, and the process survivors follow after a death.

Pacific Enterprise operates in select states, so estate planning procedures may vary by location. Confirm availability in your state before initiating trust funding or account changes.

Frequently asked questions

No. Pacific Enterprise Bank never ran a trust department, and United Business Bank does not publish one either. There is no fiduciary services group to escalate to - trust funding is ordinary branch work. Bring a Certificate of Trust, photo ID for each trustee, and the trust's tax ID to the Irvine branch (949.623.7600) and the banker retitles the account on a new signature card. Checking, savings, money market, CDs, and CDARS can all be retitled to a revocable living trust. IRAs and HSAs cannot be - name the trust as beneficiary on the custodial form instead.

Several. United Business Bank describes CDARS as multiple CD accounts managed through one relationship, with one rate per maturity, one statement, and one consolidated tax statement, giving access to multi-million-dollar FDIC insurance because the funds are submitted for placement. It requires a $250,000 minimum balance and runs terms of 4 weeks to 3 years. For an estate inventory, that means one CDARS statement can stand for several underlying CDs with different maturities. Ask the Irvine branch (949.623.7600) for the placement schedule showing each CD, its amount, and its maturity date. If the account is being retitled into a trust, confirm the trust registration flowed through to each underlying CD, not just the CDARS master relationship.
