The key to protecting your NBH Bank accounts is making sure each one has a transfer mechanism in place—either a beneficiary designation or trust ownership. Without one, the account goes through probate, adding time, cost, and court involvement for your family.

NBH Bank has 10 product types, and the estate transfer rules differ across them. Some support Payable on Death (POD) designations, some can be retitled into a trust, and others will require probate if nothing is set up. Each is covered below.

Everyday CheckingAdvantage CheckingSmarter SavingsPremium SavingsHealth Savings AccountSelect Money MarketCertificate of DepositCoverdell Education Savings Account
1
Visit a banking center of the brand division that holds the account — Community Banks of Colorado, Bank Midwest, Bank of Jackson Hole, Hillcrest Bank, or Vista Bank — with government-issued photo ID. Locations are listed on each brand site (for example https://www.cobnks.com/).
2
Ask a banker to add a Payable on Death (POD) beneficiary designation to the deposit account.
3
Bring the beneficiary details:
  • Full legal name
  • Date of birth
  • Social Security number
  • Relationship to the account holder
  • The percentage each beneficiary receives, if you are naming more than one
4
Review and sign the beneficiary designation form. The designation is made against a specific account number, so repeat it for every deposit account you hold — including accounts at a different NBH Bank brand.
5
For a trust or agency account held with the Trust and Wealth Department of Bank of Jackson Hole, work with that team (307-732-3071) rather than the banking center; those accounts pass under the trust or agency agreement, not a POD form.

Required Documents

  • Trust name, date established, and tax ID (EIN or SSN)

Special Requirements

  • The beneficiary does not need to be present.
  • A POD designation is made per account number. Because Community Banks of Colorado, Bank Midwest, Bank of Jackson Hole, Hillcrest Bank, and Vista Bank are all divisions of the same bank, a customer who holds accounts under two brands still has to sign a designation for each account.
  • A named POD beneficiary takes the account outside the will.
  • NBH Bank does not publish a downloadable POD beneficiary form; the designation is completed with a banker.
