Member Services -- there is no separate estate or death-claim department and no claims portal; member service and the branch that holds the account handle deceased-member accounts. Mail estate documents to P.O. Box 2968, Joplin, MO 64803; P.O. Box 463 reaches the Supervisory Committee, not member services.

There are two ways to keep your Great Plains FCU accounts out of probate: adding Payable on Death designations and retitling accounts into a trust. Because Great Plains FCU is a membership-based institution, trust retitling must maintain the membership eligibility requirement. Both methods ensure your accounts transfer directly to the people you choose, without court involvement.

Across 21 product types, Great Plains FCU accounts vary in how they transfer at death. The sections below walk through Payable on Death (POD) designations, trust funding options, and which products support each method.

Required Documents

  • Trust name, date established, and tax ID (EIN or SSN)

Special Requirements

  • Beneficiary designations cannot be completed inside online or mobile banking. Great Plains FCU runs the Banno platform (login at https://www.greatplainsfcu.com, mobile app "GP Anytime"), and its documented self-service scope is transactions, transfers, bill pay, notifications, and secure messaging -- not beneficiary changes.
  • The credit union has a published stance against email for account changes: "ADDRESS CHANGES CANNOT BE ACCEPTED VIA EMAIL" (https://www.greatplainsfcu.com/about-us/contact-us), and it discourages sending personal private information by email because account takeover often begins with a compromised email account. Expect the same handling for beneficiary paperwork -- use a branch, the mail, or a Banno secure message.
  • POD designations available for share draft, savings, money market, and share certificate accounts
  • IRA accounts use a separate beneficiary designation; POD does not apply to IRAs
  • A trust can be named as a POD beneficiary on deposit accounts
  • A will or trust does not override the beneficiary designation form on file
