How your Great Plains FCU accounts transfer at death depends on how each one is set up. As a membership-based credit union, Great Plains FCU headquartered at 2306 S. Range Line Rd., Joplin, MO 64804. Originally chartered in Pittsburg, Kansas in 1950; headquarters moved to Joplin, Missouri in 1996. Membership open to individuals who reside, are employed, worship, or attend school in cities or counties where branches are located. Branches in Kansas and Missouri. With 21 account types, the transfer rules vary—getting the right designations in place now prevents delays and court involvement later.

Beneficiary changes at Great Plains FCU can be made in branch, by mail, and by phone. Accounts can also be retitled into a trust to keep them out of probate entirely.

Membership is open to individuals who reside, are employed, worship, or attend school in cities or counties where Great Plains FCU branches are located in Kansas and Missouri. Employees of Select Employer Groups (SEGs) are also eligible. Immediate family members of current members can join, including spouse, parent, grandparent, child, grandchild, or sibling (including step and adoptive relationships). Great Plains FCU offers certificates of deposit with terms of 91 days, 6 months, 1 year, 2 years, 3 years, 4 years, and 5 years. The minimum deposit is $500 for all terms, with higher rates available at the $10,000 tier for 91-day, 6-month, and 1-year terms. IRA certificates are available in 6-month, 1-year, 2-year, and 3-year terms with a $500 minimum. Early withdrawal penalties apply.

Yes. Great Plains FCU accepts trust-titled accounts for checking, savings, money market, and certificate products. Bring your trust document or Certificate of Trust and government-issued photo ID for all trustees to any branch. At least one trustee must meet GPFCU membership eligibility requirements. IRA accounts cannot be retitled to a trust but can name a trust as beneficiary.

Great Plains FCU has two branches in Missouri (Joplin home office and Carthage) and eight branches in Kansas (Abilene, Columbus, Hillsboro, Independence, McPherson, Montezuma, Salina, and Wichita). Great Plains FCU offers three checking accounts: the Economy Share Draft Account (no minimum balance, no dividends), the Regular Share Draft Account (earns dividends on balances of $500 or more, monthly fee if balance drops below $500), and the Money Market Share Draft Account (earns dividends on balances of $2,500 or more at a higher rate). All accounts include debit card access and unlimited transactions.

Yes. All Great Plains FCU deposit accounts are insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) up to $250,000 per depositor. IRA accounts are insured separately up to $250,000. Joint accounts receive coverage per co-owner. POD beneficiary designations may provide additional NCUA insurance coverage depending on the number of qualifying beneficiaries.
