When an insured person dies, the beneficiary or executor should contact Globe Life's Life Claims Division at 1-800-654-5433 to start the claims process. Insurance proceeds are paid directly to the named beneficiary and do not go through probate. How quickly the claim is processed depends on the policy type, documentation, and cause of death.

Death claims at Globe Life can be started through an online portal, which streamlines the initial notification and document upload. Phone and mail options are also available.

Death claim process

Follow these steps to file a death claim with Globe Life:

Filing a claim

1
Initiate the claim through one of the available channels:
  • File online through the eClaims portal at eclaims.globelifeinsurance.com
  • Call Globe Life at 1-800-654-5433 (Monday-Friday, 7:30am-6:00pm CT)
  • Email claims@globe.life for policies in force over 2 years with benefits of $50,000 or less
2
Obtain and complete the Proofs of Death - Claimant Statement form (available at globelifeinsurance.com/pdfs/The_Globe_Life_Claim_Form.pdf)
3
Gather and submit required documentation:
  • Certified death certificate showing cause and manner of death
  • Obituary (if available)
  • For accidental death claims: police report, autopsy report, and toxicology report
  • For policies in force less than 2 years (contestability period): additional medical provider documentation including medical history for the last 5 years
4
Mail documents to: Globe Life & Accident, Life Claims Division, PO Box 8076, McKinney, TX 75070
5
Choose payout method when prompted:
  • Lump sum
  • Annuity payments

Required Documents

  • Completed Proofs of Death - Claimant Statement form
  • Certified death certificate showing cause and manner of death (original or certified copy with raised or colored seal required for claims over $50,000; copy accepted for claims of $50,000 or less)
  • Obituary (if available)
  • Government-issued photo ID for each beneficiary
  • Policy document (if available)
  • Police report, autopsy report, toxicology report, and coroner's report (for accidental death, homicide, or suicide claims)
  • Medical provider documentation for the last 5 years (for policies in force less than 2 years)

Email and fax submission available only for policies in force over 2 years with benefits of $50,000 or less. Claim form PDF available at globelifeinsurance.com/pdfs/The_Globe_Life_Claim_Form.pdf. American Income Life claims: call 1-800-433-3405, mail to PO Box 2500, Waco, TX 76702, fax (254) 741-5705, portal: eclaims.ailife.com. Liberty National claims: call 1-800-333-0637, mail to PO Box 8066, McKinney, TX 75070. Family Heritage Division claims: call (440) 922-5151, mail to PO Box 470608, Cleveland, OH 44147, fax (440) 922-5152. Expected timelines at Globe Life: Incontestable policies (in force 2 or more years) are processed upon receipt of all required documents. Once determined payable, most claims are paid within a few days. Checks typically arrive within 10-15 business days from the time the claim is processed. Contestable policies (in force less than 2 years) require additional investigation and may take longer. Delays are almost always caused by incomplete paperwork—gathering all required documents before filing the initial claim helps avoid back-and-forth.

Documentation required by Globe Life includes Completed Proofs of Death - Claimant Statement form, Certified death certificate showing cause and manner of death (original or certified copy with raised or colored seal required for claims over $50,000; copy accepted for claims of $50,000 or less), and Obituary (if available), along with additional paperwork that varies by account type. All death certificates and court documents must be certified copies.

Frequently asked questions

An ILIT is an irrevocable trust designed to own a life insurance policy, keeping the death benefit out of the insured's taxable estate. Unlike naming a revocable trust as beneficiary, an ILIT must own the policy. An existing Globe Life whole life, term life, final expense, children's life, or mortgage protection policy can be transferred to an ILIT through an absolute assignment of ownership form. However, the three-year lookback rule under IRC 2035 applies -- if the insured dies within three years of the transfer, the death benefit is included in the taxable estate. To avoid this, an ILIT can apply for and own a new Globe Life policy from inception. The trust pays premiums using gifts from the grantor, and beneficiaries receive Crummey withdrawal notices. Consult an estate planning attorney before establishing an ILIT.

You can file online through the eClaims portal at eclaims.globelifeinsurance.com, call 1-800-654-5433 (Monday-Friday, 7:30am-6:00pm CT), or email claims@globe.life (for policies in force over 2 years with benefits of $50,000 or less). Complete the Proofs of Death - Claimant Statement form (downloadable at globelifeinsurance.com/pdfs/The_Globe_Life_Claim_Form.pdf) and submit it with a certified death certificate showing cause and manner of death, along with the obituary if available. Mail documents to: Globe Life & Accident, Life Claims Division, PO Box 8076, McKinney, TX 75070.

Globe Life beneficiaries can choose between a lump-sum payment (the full death benefit paid at once) or annuity payments (predetermined annual payments over a set period). The lump-sum option is the most common choice. Contact Globe Life at 1-800-654-5433 to discuss the available payout options for your specific policy.

If no beneficiary is designated or all named beneficiaries have predeceased the insured, the death benefit is paid pursuant to the terms of the policy. In most cases, the benefit is payable to the estate of the insured. This means the proceeds go through probate, which can delay distribution and subject the benefit to estate creditor claims and court fees. Naming both primary and contingent beneficiaries helps avoid this outcome. Review your beneficiary designations regularly to ensure they reflect your current wishes.

Globe Life's Life Claims Division can be reached by phone at 1-800-654-5433, email at claims@globe.life, and fax at 1-405-270-1496 for questions throughout the claims process.

When the deceased had multiple Globe Life policies, some may need separate claims while others can be handled together. The Life Claims Division can clarify what's needed for each account type.
