There are two ways to keep your Dime accounts out of probate: adding beneficiary designations and retitling eligible accounts into a revocable living trust. Which approach works best depends on the account type and your overall estate plan.

Across 10 product types, Dime accounts vary in how they transfer at death. The sections below walk through Payable on Death (POD) designations, trust funding options, and which products support each method.

1
Visit any Dime Community Bank branch (https://www.dime.com/branch-search) with a valid government-issued photo ID.
2
Request to add or update a Payable on Death (POD) beneficiary designation on your deposit account.
3
Provide beneficiary information:
  • Full legal name of each beneficiary
  • Beneficiary date of birth and Social Security number
  • Relationship to account holder
  • For trusts as beneficiary: trust name, date of trust, and trust EIN or grantor SSN
4
Sign the updated account documentation. The POD designation takes effect immediately upon completion.

Required Documents

  • Trust name, date established, and tax ID (EIN or SSN)

Special Requirements

  • POD designations are available on deposit accounts (checking, savings, CDs, money market).
  • IRA beneficiary designations require a separate IRA Beneficiary Designation form.
  • Beneficiaries have no rights to the account during the account holder's lifetime.
  • No standalone downloadable beneficiary designation form is published on dime.com; designation is completed at a branch.
