How your Clearview FCU accounts transfer at death depends on how each one is set up. As a membership-based credit union, Clearview FCU serves members through approximately 23 financial centers in southwestern Pennsylvania. Membership is open to anyone who lives, works, worships, attends school, or volunteers in Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Lawrence, Washington, or Westmoreland counties. Immediate family members (spouse, parent, child, sibling, grandparent, or grandchild) of current or potential members are also eligible. Once joined, membership is for life regardless of relocation. Headquarters: 8805 University Boulevard, Moon Township, PA 15108. With 24 account types, the transfer rules vary—getting the right designations in place now prevents delays and court involvement later.

Account holders can update their beneficiary designations at Clearview FCU in branch and by phone. Accounts can also be retitled into a trust to keep them out of probate entirely.

Clearview FCU has documented procedures for both preparing accounts during your lifetime and handling claims when an account holder passes away.

Because Clearview FCU serves a limited number of states, procedures for trust funding and beneficiary changes may differ depending on your location. Verify availability before starting.

Frequently asked questions

No. Clearview IRA Savings Accounts and IRA Certificates cannot be retitled to a revocable living trust under IRS rules - retirement accounts must remain in the individual owner's name. However, you can name your trust as the primary or contingent beneficiary of the IRA. Clearview handles IRA beneficiary designations on a separate IRA beneficiary form, not on the deposit-account POD form. Call 1-800-926-0003 to request the IRA beneficiary form and naming a trust may have RMD implications, so consult a tax advisor first.

Yes. Membership at Clearview is established through the Clearview Savings Account (Primary Savings) with a $10 minimum. When you retitle deposit accounts to your revocable living trust, the Primary Savings account must remain open with at least $10 in the individual's name (or as a trust-titled membership share) to keep membership active. If the entire share balance falls to zero, membership can be closed and other accounts (checking, certificates, loans) may need to be closed or transferred. Discuss the share-account structure with the representative at your trust-funding appointment.
