There are two ways to keep your Bayer Heritage accounts out of probate: adding Payable on Death designations and retitling accounts into a trust. Because Bayer Heritage is a membership-based institution, trust retitling must maintain the membership eligibility requirement. Both methods ensure your accounts transfer directly to the people you choose, without court involvement.

Bayer Heritage has 17 accounts with different estate transfer rules. Here is how beneficiary designations, trust ownership, and probate apply to each one.

1
Visit any Bayer Heritage branch location
2
Request the Payable on Death (POD) beneficiary designation form
3
Bring government-issued photo ID
4
Complete the form with the required beneficiary details:
  • Full legal names and residential addresses for each beneficiary
  • Percentage shares if unequal distribution is desired
5
All account owners must sign the form

Required Documents

  • Trust name, date established, and tax ID (EIN or SSN)

Special Requirements

  • Bayer Heritage supports Payable on Death (POD) designations on deposit accounts
  • Beneficiaries must provide their full legal name and residential address
  • Unless otherwise stated, all living beneficiaries receive equal shares upon death of the last surviving account owner
  • Members may designate unequal shares by providing percentages in writing; percentages must equal 100%
  • If assigned percentages do not equal 100%, the credit union may default to equal share ownership or ask for correction
  • If at death of last surviving owner not all beneficiaries are living and unequal shares were chosen, unassigned shares are re-designated equally to surviving beneficiaries
  • The beneficiary designation applies to all sub-accounts under the regular savings/member number, except IRAs and Coverdell Savings Accounts
  • The credit union reserves the right to refuse some forms of beneficiary designation
  • Beneficiaries have no interest in or access to the account until the death of all account owners
  • West Virginia state law governs POD account designations (W. Va. Code 31A-4-33)
  • IRA and Coverdell ESA beneficiary designations are separate from deposit account POD designations and may differ
