Bayer Heritage offers 16 accounts, each with its own rules for what happens when a member dies. As a membership-based credit union, Bayer Heritage membership is open to employees of Bayer Corporation entities specifically named in the BHFCU Charter, immediate family of existing members, and individuals who live, work, worship, or attend school in Wetzel County WV, Tyler County WV, and Monroe County OH, plus select areas of Marshall County WV, Berkeley County WV, Belmont County OH, Licking County OH, Muskingum County OH, Berkeley County SC, Charleston County SC, and Harris County TX. Businesses and legal entities located in those areas are also eligible. Membership is also available through Preferred Business Partners and the American Consumer Council. Join with a $5 share deposit. Branches today: New Martinsville, Moundsville, and Martinsburg (WV); Zanesville (OH); Bushy Park, Goose Creek, and Nexton (SC); Massey Tompkins in Baytown (TX). The Pittsburgh, PA branch closed December 31, 2025, though the Account Disclosure still carries a Pennsylvania ownership-and-beneficiary section for legacy accounts. Some transfer automatically to a named beneficiary, others can be held in a trust, and a few may require probate if no plan is in place.

Managing beneficiaries at Bayer Heritage is straightforward—changes can be made in branch, by mail, and by phone, typically taking 15-30 minutes to complete; processing time varies. Trust funding is also available, allowing families to retitle accounts into the name of a revocable living trust.

Bayer Heritage provides specific procedures for both proactive estate planning and filing claims after a death.

Frequently asked questions

Almost. The Account Disclosure states that a beneficiary designation made on the regular savings/member number applies to all sub-accounts under that member number — share savings, share draft checking, Checking+ Rewards, club accounts, and share certificates. The exceptions are IRAs and Coverdell Education Savings Accounts: those beneficiaries are designated separately and may differ from the beneficiaries on the membership accounts. If you want your IRA to go to someone other than your deposit-account beneficiaries, you must file that designation on the IRA itself.

No. An IRA cannot be owned by a trust, so Bayer Heritage Traditional IRA, Roth IRA, and IRA share certificate accounts cannot be retitled to a trust — and neither can a Coverdell Education Savings Account. You can name a trust as the beneficiary of an IRA instead. Deposit accounts are different: share savings, share draft checking, Checking+ Rewards, club accounts, and share certificates can be titled to a revocable trust, with only the named trustees able to transact. IRA beneficiary changes are handled separately from the deposit-account POD designation; call 800-272-6003 or book an IRA appointment at bayerhfcu.com/appointments.
