The goal with your American Eagle FCU accounts is to make sure every account has a transfer mechanism in place—either a POD beneficiary designation or trust ownership. Because American Eagle FCU is a membership-based institution, trust retitling must maintain the membership eligibility requirement. Accounts without either one will require probate, which means court involvement and delays for your family.

Each of American Eagle FCU's 9 accounts has different rules for how it transfers at death. The sections below explain the options for each.

1
Visit any of American Eagle's 16 branch locations across Connecticut
2
Request the Payable on Death (POD) beneficiary designation form
3
Provide required information and documentation:
  • Government-issued photo ID
  • Full legal names and identifying information for each beneficiary
4
All account owners must sign the form

Required Documents

  • Trust name, date established, and tax ID (EIN or SSN)

Special Requirements

  • POD designations apply to deposit accounts including checking, savings, money market, and certificates
  • American Eagle treats Revocable Trust and Pay-On-Death accounts as a single ownership-and-beneficiary category on its account records (per the Member Account Information Disclosure)
  • IRA accounts use separate beneficiary designation processes
  • Beneficiaries cannot withdraw unless all persons creating the account die and the beneficiary is then living
  • If multiple beneficiaries are named and survive, they own the account in equal shares without right of survivorship
  • The person(s) creating the account may change beneficiaries, change account types, and withdraw all or part of funds at any time
  • Minors may be beneficiaries only if a parent, custodian, or legal guardian is set forth for the minor
  • Submitting a new POD designation replaces all prior beneficiary designations on the account
