Estate planning as a Cricut account holder

A Cricut account (Cricut ID) holds a Design Space project library, purchased images and fonts, uploaded custom designs (SVGs, images), Cricut Access subscription content, legacy cartridge entitlements, cricut.com store credit, and machine registrations. For many crafters and small business owners, the Design Space library represents years of accumulated projects, purchased assets, and custom uploads. All Cricut cutting machines (Maker, Explore, Joy) require a Cricut ID to operate through Design Space, though the machines themselves work with any account.

Under Cricut's terms, accounts are not property of the account holder and are forfeited when the account closes at death. No estate planning document—will, trust, or otherwise—can override this forfeiture.

What happens at death

Cricut has no published bereavement or estate process. No form, support article, or documented path exists for deceased account holders, and Cricut names no estates contact. The Terms of Use (v3.0.0, effective September 16, 2025) state: "You may not transfer your Account or Account Information to any other person, and you may not use anyone else's Account or Account Information at any time." Purchased content does not escape that: "DIGITAL CONTENT made available through the PLATFORM (EVEN WHEN PURCHASED) is licensed, not sold, to you," under a non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, limited license, and on termination "any license and any other rights granted you under these Terms of Use will end." So a purchased image or font library is a license that ends, not property that passes to the estate. Cricut also reserves the right to disable any account at any time in its sole discretion. Money already paid is gone: "ALL PAYMENTS TO CRICUT ARE NON-REFUNDABLE, including without limitation, payments or fees for website/cricut shop purchases, digital content, subscriptions, or other services, regardless of usage or satisfaction." Account deletion permanently removes all projects, images, uploads, fonts, and digital purchases, cancels any Cricut Access subscription, and forfeits remaining cricut.com store credit, with no documented recovery window. Cricut Access renews automatically by default, so a lapsed estate leaves a recurring charge running until someone stops it.
