Preparing your Tyndall FCU accounts for estate transfer involves two key steps: designating beneficiaries on each account and, where appropriate, retitling accounts into a trust. Because Tyndall FCU is a membership-based institution, trust retitling must maintain the membership eligibility requirement. Accounts with Payable on Death designations or trust ownership bypass probate entirely.

With 13 product types, Tyndall FCU offers a range of transfer options. Some accounts support Payable on Death (POD) designations, others can be retitled into a trust, and some require probate if no beneficiary is designated. The sections below break down each step.

2
Request to add a POD (Payable on Death) beneficiary to your deposit account
3
Provide beneficiary details:
  • Each beneficiary's full legal name and identifying information
  • Percentage allocations if naming multiple beneficiaries
  • For IRA accounts, complete separate beneficiary designation paperwork
4
Sign updated account documentation
5
Request a copy of the updated designation for your records

Required Documents

  • Trust name, date established, and tax ID (EIN or SSN)

Special Requirements

  • Beneficiary changes can be initiated via DocuSign electronic forms through online banking; authentication uses the email associated with your Tyndall account
  • A POD beneficiary designation does not apply to IRAs -- the Membership Agreement states IRAs are governed by a separate account agreement and beneficiary designation (use the IRA Change Beneficiary form)
  • A POD beneficiary may not also be an owner of the account (Membership Agreement, "Payable on Death (POD) Accounts")
  • If you name several POD beneficiaries they share equally, and if one dies before the last owner the percentages are re-adjusted pro-rata among the surviving beneficiaries -- name contingent beneficiaries if you want a different result
  • Any beneficiary change must be made in writing on a form Tyndall approves; Tyndall has no duty to notify a beneficiary that an account exists
