Frequently asked questions

Tower closes the IRA without its own early-withdrawal penalty and distributes it to the named beneficiaries. The beneficiary is mailed a Beneficiary Payment Election form (Form 2321) — issued by Ascensus, PO Box 2917, Clinton, IA 52733-2917, not by Tower. The form offers five choices: lump sum, transfer to your own IRA, transfer to an inherited IRA at another institution, an inherited IRA with scheduled payments at Tower, or an inherited IRA without scheduled payments at Tower. Tower distributes the assets according to the option selected once it receives the form; call 301-497-7000 for help completing it. A POD or trust designation on a deposit account does NOT carry over to an IRA — IRAs use a separate beneficiary designation.
