Once SLS confirms you as a successor in interest or estate representative, you can request the current payoff figure and any past-due amounts. Under RESPA (12 U.S.C. 2605(e); 12 CFR 1024.36) a written request for information must be acknowledged and answered within the regulatory timeframes. The payoff amount is what would fully satisfy the loan; the estate can pay it from estate funds, life insurance, or the proceeds of a sale.
After confirming your status, SLS can discuss loss mitigation options such as a repayment plan, loan modification, or forbearance if payments are behind; assumption of the loan by a successor who wants to keep the home; or selling the property and paying the loan from the proceeds. These are handled through customer care at 800-315-4757.
