As of May 1, 2024, loans previously serviced by Specialized Loan Servicing (SLS) transitioned to Shellpoint Mortgage Servicing, a name Newrez LLC (NMLS #3013) does business under. Rithm Capital's acquisition of Computershare Mortgage Services Inc. and affiliated companies, including SLS, closed the same day.
SLS services loans, which means at death the focus is settling what is owed. The estate notifies SLS, provides documentation of authority, and works through payoff or the loan-specific options available to survivors.
SLS has documented procedures for both preparing accounts during your lifetime and handling claims when an account holder passes away.
