For SILAC policyholders, estate planning comes down to one critical step: making sure the right beneficiaries are named on every policy. Insurance proceeds bypass probate entirely and go directly to whoever is listed—regardless of what a will says. When estate tax planning or controlled distributions are a factor, a trust can be named as beneficiary instead.

Each of SILAC's 6 policies has different rules for how it transfers at death. The sections below explain the options for each.

Required Documents

  • Trust name, date established, and tax ID (EIN or SSN)

Special Requirements

  • If joint owners exist, the surviving owner is the sole primary beneficiary per contract terms
  • A physical street address is required for the annuitant, owner, and joint owner per USA Patriot Act requirements
  • If the owner is not a natural person (e.g., trust or entity), the authorized representative must sign and provide documentation of authorization
  • Separate beneficiary forms are required for California contracts (CA-specific version available)
