Estate planning at PSECU means getting each account set up so it transfers automatically when you die—either through a POD beneficiary or trust ownership. Because PSECU is a membership-based institution, trust retitling must maintain the membership eligibility requirement. Without one of these in place, accounts may require probate before your family can access the funds.

With 10 product types, PSECU offers a range of transfer options. Some accounts support Payable on Death (POD) designations, others can be retitled into a trust, and some require probate if no beneficiary is designated. The sections below break down each step.

1
Call PSECU at (800) 237-7328 (Monday-Friday 8 AM - 6 PM ET, Saturday 8 AM - 4 PM ET) and ask for the Tentative Trust beneficiary change form to be mailed to you
2
For IRA beneficiaries, ask instead for the IRA Department at extension 3570 — IRA designations are separate from the deposit-account Tentative Trust
3
PSECU does not complete the designation over the phone: the signed form still has to come back by mail, fax, or email

Required Documents

  • Trust name, date established, and tax ID (EIN or SSN)

Special Requirements

  • PSECU is digital-first with only two branches (Lemoyne and Cameron Street, Harrisburg) and a State College service center; beneficiary designations are handled by mail, fax, or email, not through digital banking
  • PSECU calls its POD structure a "Tentative Trust." Per the PSECU Agreements and Disclosures, the Tentative Trust is revocable, the owner keeps full transactional control, beneficiaries can be designated or changed at any time (not just at account opening), and designated beneficiaries have no transactional authority while the owner is alive
  • The Tentative Trust Application is the only form needed to open a Tentative Trust account (per the Agreements and Disclosures)
  • Beneficiaries listed on Form 2819 replace all existing beneficiaries on the account
  • IRA beneficiary designations are separate from the deposit-account Tentative Trust and run through the IRA Department (extension 3570)
